Willis “Willie” Dean Whitener, 72, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away on Friday, August 17, 2012 at North Kansas City Hospital with his family by his side. Willie was born September 16, 1939 to Clarence and Kathryn Whitener in Eldon, MO.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy receiving his Honorable Discharge in July 1960. Willie ended his career in sales for EMJ Corp, prior to that he spent many of his working years with Raymond International. He married his best friend, Linda Montgomery in Platte County, MO on February 14, 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Leo F. Whitener. He is survived by his wife, Linda Whitener of the home; a daughter, Terre Whitener of Oak Grove, MO; and three sons, Kevin M. Osbern and wife, Jami of Lake Waukomis, MO, Christopher S. Osbern of Kansas City, MO and David W. Osbern of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren: Taylor Ann Marie Osbern, Jesse Whitener, Jurnee S. Whitener, Devin R. Osbern, Tyler A. Osbern and Avrie D. Osbern.
The Committal Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Leavenworth National Cemetery 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS with military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. The Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
