Memorial services and a Celebration of Life for Walter O’Kelly will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023. Family and friends will celebrate Walter’s life from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at his son Bryan’s home, 1565 S.W. 2 Hwy, Holden, MO 64040. A graveside service will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. This will be a casual attire celebration. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. Walter Edgar O’Kelly, 90, a resident of Wellington, MO passed away peacefully surrounded by his five children Sunday, October 8, 2023 at his home. He was born February 20, 1933 to Roy and Margie (Nail) O’Kelly in Jackson, MS.
Walter spent his working career as a printer for the International Paper Company. Once president of the Desoto Club of America, Walter enjoyed tinkering on cars, country dancing, playing guitar and listening to music, especially Johnny Cash. If you had met Walter, he would let you know “ I’m looking for a lady who doesn’t drink or smoke” and I’ve never smoked a cigarette or drank a beer in my life” He was a frequent visitor on dance nights at the VFW in Independence. He was known and loved by many. Walter cherished his time with his family.
Survived by his children, James O’Kelly (Delores Roach) of Independence, MO, Kenneth O’Kelly (Joan Williams) of Wellington, MO, Margie Bellamy (Jeremy Kaiser) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Bryan O’Kelly (Shannon Price) Holden, MO, Raymond O’Kelly of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Cynthia O’Kelly, Christina O’Kelly, James O’Kelly, Ronald O’Kelly, Bryan O’Kelly Jr., Taylor O’Kelly, Katie O’Kelly, Tiffany Bellamy, Kenneth O’Kelly Jr., Melissa O’Kelly, Ashley Arnhart; great-grandchildren, Jasper Bellamy, Halo O’Kelly, Rowan Bellamy;. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margie (Nail) O’Kelly, sisters, Rose and Ivy, brother, Roy (Vern) O’Kelly; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Walter was a joy to know.
