Walter Abraham Upton, 74, and Kerry Ellen Upton, 74, passed away unexpectantly from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Saturday, July 2, 2022 in Blue Springs, MO. Walter was born January 30, 1948 in Gadsden, AL to James and Audrey Upton. Kerry was born December 23, 1947 in Akron, OH to Andrew and Mary (Abston) Nagy.
Walter served his country proudly for 24 years in the United States Navy, before owning his trucking company. Kerry worked several years as a bailiff for the Jackson County Courthouse and retired in 2012. They were members of the Elk’s Lodge #2509 in Blue Springs, MO. Walter and Kerry had a great circle of friends and always considered them all family. They were avid sports fans, and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Alabama and Louisiana State University (LSU) college athletics. Walter was a huge advocate for youth bowling. They also enjoyed bowling, golfing, barbequing, traveling, cooking, and Kerry’s corvette. Walter and Kerry adored their dog Keke. Above all they cherished their family and attending their grandchildren’s sporting activities.
Walter and Kerry are survived by their children, Kenneth Yates (Toni) of Independence, MO, Kelli Stallman (Brian) of Buckner, MO, Tina Sharpe (Paul) of Independence, MO, Ryan Alumbaugh (Ashley) of Blue Springs, MO, James “Jay” Matney of Blue Springs, MO, Derek Upton (Rachel) of Baltimore, MD; precious grandchildren, Duke Yates, Dilon Yates, Devin Yates, Benjamin Stallman, Joseph Howell, Seth Faris (Cassie), Kyla Harmon (Nathan), Tyler Stallman, Courtney Jones (Jacob), Chaning Alumbaugh, Matthew Upton, Joseph Upton, Jacob Upton, Luke Upton. Kerry is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Linda Nagy, my best friend, my sister, Andrea Cadwalder, and my beloved brother-in-law Kenneth Cadwallader, understand that without having any brothers and having Ken in the family for over 45 years, he is like a dear brother.

Two very sweet/kind people have been taken away in a haste! I was very saddened to hear of this news. I worked with Kerry and she was always the nicest person to have conversation with and will be missed by all. Condolences go out to the family!
Kerry was a once in a lifetime friend and I had the privilege of standing by her side when she married her amazing husband Walt.
The last time I spoke with her on the phone before I hung up I am grateful that I told her that I loved her. Her loss will forever leave a hole in my heart, but I will cherish the wonderful memories that we have shared over the 20 + years of our friendship.
I am so very sorry and will have you all in my prayers. I will always remember the laughs they always had.
I worked with Kerry at Family Court from 2000 to 2002. She was a dear person and will be sadly missed.
My sympathies to Ryan , Ashley, & Chaning. Praying for your strength and peace.
I didn’t personally know this beautiful couple, but grieving for the entire family at their loss. I’m grateful and have much respect for Walter’s military service in the Navy. They are gone too soon.
Sincerest sympathies to the family of this couple. I also enjoyed interacting with Kerry while working at the Family Court as she always had a positive, friendly, fun attitude and you could just feel her love for life. She seemed to always have a smile on her face and a kind word for all.
I will be unable to attend today unfortunately, so please accept ny deepest condolences to both families and their friends.
I worked with Kerry for many years at Family Court. She was so sweet, worked hard, kind and oh so funny!! Even if she was having a rough day at work, she still had a special way about her that, while she was serious, she lightened it up with her personality. I haven’t seen her in many years but finally reconnected on Facebook several years ago, still just as beautiful, kind and funny. I was very glad to see she found Walt and was (still) living her best life and seemed extra happy with Walt. She will be missed by so many because she never knew a stranger. Prayers for all.
Sorry to hear about the tragedy that happened, Walt was a good person I bowled with him and always enjoyed his company, didn’t know his wife but I’m sure she was great person as well wish we could have known her again sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss. I had the amazing experience of getting to work at Family Court with Kerry. She was a fantastic bailiff! She will be dearly missed.
