Viola T. Waldschmidt, 93, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023. She was born April 04, 1929, in Ellis, Kansas, to Lawrence and Anne (Gaschler) Pfeifer.
Vi graduated from Ellis High School in 1947 and married her loving and devoted husband, Mel Waldschmidt. Together they built a beautiful family, supported each other and were excellent role models.
Vi was a devoted Catholic who loved her family and always extended herself to help others first. She loved visiting with family and friends and her sense of humor made her so much fun to be around. She was so proud of her grandchildren and made sure everyone knew about what they were doing.
Vi and Mel had four children and is survived by her daughter, Cynthia King (David); son Mike Waldschmidt, MD (Linda) and their children, Sarah Muelleman (Tommy) and their children Leighton and Crawford; Haley Reyes (David) and their child Dawson; Katherine Quarnstrom (Eric) and their child Anderson; and Davis Waldschmidt; son, Tony Waldschmidt (Peg) and their children, Branden, Travis and Katelynn Mann (Alex) and their child Parker. She is predeceased by her husband Mel, her youngest child, Nancy Shaw, and survived by her children, Laurence Shaw and Nicole Hill (Jon Kershaw) and her children, Arwin, Adeline, Evelyn, Olive and expecting the newest great-grandchild soon. Vi is lovingly remembered by her step grandchildren, Wade King, Sheri Crawford, Eric Shaw and Chris Shaw. Additionally, her father, mother and four brothers: Albert, Ambrose, Ralph and Alvin preceded her in death.
The Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Viola’s life will commence at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2023, at St. Therese Church North, 7207 NW Highway 9, Kansas City, MO. Inurnment will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Wichita, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Therese Church. I met Vi when Nancy was going through chemotherapy. She was always there with Nancy . I so admired the loving spirit that was extended between the two. She and Mel were incredible people and I am thankful that they were part of my life.
