Steve grew up in Bridgeport on his family Homestead where his mother still resides.
Steve graduated high school in Bridgeport and then served in the United States Army. He was proud of his time served in the Army and was always placing the needs of his country first. He spent the majority of his working career as an over the road truck driver, several of those years he was employed by Lockheed Martin. His last position was with Ryder in Liberty MO, where he felt welcomed and like family to the staff. He enjoyed his position there.
In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering around the house and was an exceptional handyman. He would always help with family any projects they were working on. He loved to teach his kids how to do projects from plumbing to home remodeling. He had a passion for riding his motorcycle and watching football the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs were his passion. An exceptional cook, smoking meats and cooking for his family was always one of his favorite things to do.
Family was most important to Steve, he was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He married the love of his life Leslie Suzanne Warger on June 10, 2013 in Bridgeport. His children: Jennifer Sweatman, Austin Carrick and wife, Shae, Alexys Warger, Brianna Bonewitz and Christopher Sweatman; sister, Christy Whisenant and husband, Lowell; mother and father-in-law, Maria and Michael Gaines; brother-in-law Jeffery Warger and Sarah, sister-in-law Jennie Warger; grandson the apple of his eye, Ezra and one on the way. Best friend for over 30 years, Robert Noe. Many nieces and nephews including Jessi Whisenant. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jeffery Warger.
His furry 4 legged family include Tobsi his cat that he loved dearly and four other cats, two dogs. He was an animal lover, never met one that wasn’t taken right to him.
Steve will be greatly missed by his family, you can never replace such a beautiful soul.
Family and friends will gather to visit and celebrate Steve’s life from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, MO. A second visitation and interment will take place in Bridgeport later this weekend.
I’m deeply sad to hear about the bad news of a good man. Rest well my brother.

My husband and I worked with Steve at BTT , great guy . Sorry to hear of his passing , condolences to the family. Your friends Daniel and Lynn Irlas
Steve will be missed. When he moved to Bridgeport, we met in Mr. CLayton’s math class. Mr. Clayton was showing pictures of Geneva Switzerland. From then on unlike anyone else he called me Geneva Lake. He’s the only one to ever do this. So, I guess I will not be called Geneva Lake again until I see you in Heaven my friend. I will miss you!
Rest In Peace my friend! Till we meet again!♥️
From a veteran to a veteran, and a fellow Bridgeportian, I’ll be praying for you and your family.
