Stephen N. Corbin, 51, of Parkville, MO passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 24, 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident at 152 Highway and Hampton Road in the Northland. He was born August 7, 1960 in Kansas City, MO to Arthur and Nancy (Peltier) Corbin. Stephen was a 1978 graduate of Hickman Mills High School and received a BA in Business Administration from the former Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity.
Stephen was certified as a financial advisor in 2000 and was employed by Great American Investors, Inc. in Overland Park, KS. Previously he was in the electrical wholesale business as a salesman in the Kansas City area for over 15 years. He was an influential member in the Big Brother/Little Brother program, serving as a big brother to Roderick Moore for almost twenty years, along with being a foster parent for the State of Missouri. He was a member of several local service organizations, including Rotary Club No.13 of Kansas City, MO. While a member of the Rotary Club, he served as a member of the board, was chairman of the Shoes for Orphan Soles annual fundraising event, and he received the distinguished honor of being a Paul Harris Fellow. Other organizations he participated in include the Waldo Optimist Club and the Parkville Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Missouri Tiger fan and a live music aficionado who enjoyed both classic rock and roll and the Blues. Stephen developed a passion for basketball as a young boy, played on the Hickman Mills High School team, played intramural ball in college, and continued with his passion in his adult years on a team made up of the same men who played together from 1983 until 2001.
He married Angela Lynn Swan on November 4, 2000 in Eureka Springs, AR. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his twin-daughters, Alexandria Laura and Kylee Danielle Corbin, of the home; brothers, Jeffrey M. Corbin (Tammy) of Slidell, LA and Michael V. Corbin of Overland Park, KS; sister, Jill E. Ariagno (Scott) of Leawood, KS; mother, Nancy Packard of Overland Park, KS; father, Arthur Corbin and wife Andrea of Kansas City, MO; father and mother-in-law, Drexall and Mary Swan of King City, MO; Roderick Moore (Little Brother); and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many, many personal and professional friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 30, 2012 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 NW 9 Hwy, Kansas City, MO 64152 with Rev. Joe Cisetti, celebrant. The body will be removed from the funeral home to arrive at St. Therese Catholic Church on Thursday, where the family will receive friends and a formal visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. In lieu of going to the visitation, friends may call from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville.
