Shirley Irene. Rodecap, 75, a Northland resident in Kansas City, MO passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. She was born December 7, 1937 in Sparks, KS to Percival and Maude (French) Williams.
Shirley was employed by the Park Hill School District as a librarian aide for 25 years at Southeast Elementary School. Shirley was a member of Community of Christ Church, where she served as an Elder. She was very active in Church Women United and was named Woman of the Year. Shirley volunteered her time generously at the Peace Pavilion at the Temple in Independence, MO and was very devoted to her church community. She also volunteered at the Platte County Clothes Closet and often called on sick people in local nursing homes and hospitals. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved bird watching and tending to her flowers.
She married Duane A. Rodecap on April 6, 1956 in Fanning, KS. Mr. Rodecap survives at the couple’s home in Kansas City. Additional survivors include two sons, Terry Rodecap (Cindy) of Kansas City, MO and Berry Rodecap of Kansas City, MO; a brother, Sam Williams of Hiawatha, KS; a sister, Donna Trent of Troy, KS; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Matt, Nicole and Alicia; and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Community of Christ Church, 7615 North Platte Purchase Drive, Kansas City, MO 64118, with Pastor Bob Gauper presiding. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the church.
