Roger Lee Maisch – husband, dad, Papa, and friend, woke up with Jesus on Friday morning, January 20, 2023. He was surrounded by family at his home in Oak Grove, MO as he took his last breaths. He passionately loved life on earth, but he was so excited to meet his Savior. His love of life was contagious, and his smile was one-of-a-kind. Roger was born on April 15, 1944, in Paola, KS to Walter Gerhardt Maisch and Minnie Edna Maisch (Minden). He was baptized on May 7, 1944, and confirmed in May of 1957 at Trinity Lutheran in Block, KS. He graduated from Paola High School in Paola, KS in 1962, and received his Bachelor of Science of Business Administration from Pittsburg State University in 1969.
Roger grew up on the farm with his two brothers and sister. He carried his love of the farm into his career in marketing and sales of farm equipment. He married the love of his life, Linda Johnson, on Valentine’s Day, 1965. They had three children and together the five moved around the country for years, always clinging closely to God and each other. Unconditional love was modeled in the home.
Roger loved spending his time with family and especially lit up when grandkids came into the house. He loved being on the water, enjoying fishing and boating. He also enjoyed hunting and had a great love of music – especially country and worship. The Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawks held a special place in his heart, and he especially loved championship watch parties with family! His joy was simply infectious … he shined the light of Jesus in his every day, and all who knew him felt it. You just simply felt better in his presence.
Roger is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda (Johnson) Maisch of the home; his children Brad Maisch (Angel) of Peculiar, MO, Tara McGraw (Chad) of Blue Springs, MO, and Matthew Maisch (Gretchen) of Odessa, MO; eight grandchildren (his fan club) Chase McGraw, Maci Kate McGraw, Brody Maisch, Ciara McGraw, Natalie Maisch, Collins Maisch, Danner Macradee Maisch, and Maverick Maisch, and by his sister Marilyn Dempsay of Camarillo, CA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie (Minden) Maisch, father, Walter Maisch, brothers Larry Maisch and Lyman Maisch, and his buddy and brother-in-law, John Johnson.
The family will hold a celebration of Roger’s life at Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 NW RD Mize Rd., Blue Springs, MO on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Visitation will be at 10AM and the celebration service will be at 11AM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Changing Lives Foundation. My prayers are with you, Linda, and your family. May God give you strength, comfort and peace. God has walked with you and Roger through all of this time. He walks with you still.
Roger, good friend, loving husband and father, fellow fisherman. He was a friend to me. Linda and kids, may the peace of our Loed Jesus uphold you in the days ahead.
Jeff just told me of Roger’s death.
Please know that our prayers are with you, Linda, and your family.
You were a loving part of our lives for the time we were at Christ the King.
Roger now rests in His Savior’s arms, hearing His words,
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant ”
With love,
Susan Stephens
My thoughts and prayers are with you Linda and with Brad, Tara and Matt. I know you all are fully aware that Roger was a special man. I sit here and wonder what all Roger did that I will never know. Roger was not one to brag about his accomplishments, if you don’t count his fishing stories that is, but he had many. I was never with Roger when he had his bible. I bet if I could scroll through it, I would see tattered and frayed pages, I would see page after page of under lined words and passages, I would see notes on the page edges and inside the cover both front and back. I would see periods, commas, semi colons and every other punctuation mark except for one, the question mark. I will forever remember Roger as a man of charity, a man of faith, a man full of love, a man full of understanding and good will. Roger is a man that “Walked the Walk”!
The Delp family sends their love and prayers to you. You are so blessed to have such an amazing husband, father and papa.
Linda, I am sending prayers for you and yours for healing in mind, body and spirit.
I will always remember Roger as a sweet and gentle person who carried a smile and a kind word.
I believe that he is resting now. It was a long trip home.
Our deepest sympathy to all of you. We will keep precious memories of Roger forever in our hearts. May God wrap His arms around you all to comfort you. Our hearts and prayers are with you. Love, love, love to each of you.
