Rob was born in Wyandotte, MI on December 12, 1955, to Robert Harvey and Patricia (Smith) Denson. He grew up in the Midwest living in Illinois and Indiana. Rob started his career with Sutherland Lumber when he was 19 years old. Through his 47-year successful career with Sutherlands, he lived in Ohio, Kansas, Oklahoma, and finally Missouri.
Rob and Shannon have lived in Liberty, Missouri for the past 22 years. Rob lived every day to the fullest and encouraged all those around him to do the same. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, traveling to Indiana to see his family and helping anyone he could. He was everyone’s “go to guy” who could fix anything, solve problems big and small, and just be there for you whenever you needed him. He was deeply loved by all.
He married the love of his life, Shannon Smith on June 9, 1979 in Indianapolis, IN. In addition to Shannon, survivors include his father, and mother-in-law Chuck and Myrna Smith; his children; Katie Colley (Bryan), Robert Denson III (Cate), and Jacob Denson (Stine); two sisters, Janice Shoemaker (Bill) and Jill Scharer (Mark); his sister-in-law Laura Ellinwood (Steve); grandchildren, Brady, Lucy, and Emma Colley; Harvey and Henrietta Denson; Rylee Denson; and many nieces and nephews. Rob was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Patricia Denson.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Rob’s life on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the Liberty Christian Fellowship Church, 1815 W. Liberty Dr. Liberty, MO 64068. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service commencing at 3:00 p.m. A light reception will follow from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Tunnel of Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org). Arrangements are entrusted with the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville. Memories of Rob and condolences may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.
Our deepest sympathies with all the Denson Family. Rob was such a great husband and father and he will be missed by all of you so much. Prayers were not enough to keep him here so he must have something important to do in heaven. You are in my heart and on my mind.
Rob’s smile showed his love of life, illuminating those he loved and cared for. He certainly leaves a legacy of loving family and friends.
There is a big whole left here on earth but Heaven certainly gained a warrior, protector and “go-to” angel watching down on his loved ones.
God Bless Shannon – and keep her healthy and strong!
Hugs to all!
He will be very missed. I enjoyed every moment getting to know him.
We are so very sorry for your loss. You all all in our thoughts and prayers.
So sorry to the entire family on your loss. Was great to see Rob at Pike golf outing in August. May he forever rest in peace
While I never met Rob, I often heard his sisters Jill and Jannie speak of him with so much love. It was evident that he was a special man. I remember Jill telling the story that he was to walk her down the aisle for her wedding…and the only thing that kept him from doing that was his wife being in labor that day! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
So sorry for the entire families loss. Rob was such a quality person and will be missed by all who knew him. He did enjoy life to its fullest. God Bless you Rob. Rest in Peace.
My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family and friends. Rob was a positive person no matter what and a example for us all to follow. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us at Sutherlands. You will be greatly missed. God Bless you family.
Rob was always a great win/win partner for our company, and he represented the best interests of Sutherland Lumber at all times. This type of gentleman is becoming the exception in today’s times. We will miss Rob and our thoughts are with his family.
We are so sorry for your loss. Rob will be greatly missed by anyone who had the privilege to know him. We are praying for your peace and healing and looking forward to seeing Rob again in heaven!

I had the pleasure and the privilege of knowing Rob as the buyer of my company’s products at Sutherlands for a good number of years. Rob was the ultimate professional. He was knowledgeable, fair and kind to me even when I did not deserve it as a supplier. I am very sad to hear of his passing. RIP sir and God bless you and give comfort to your family.
Our deepest sympathy to the entire Denson family. The memorial video was such a beautiful tribute to Rob. His love for his family and his zest for life shine through in those memories. We grew up as cousins, mostly separated by distance, but getting together for the big moments. We will miss him, his beautiful smile, his kind heart, his adventurous spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those mourning his loss.
Shannon, and family….
Blessings to you for strength during this most difficult time.
Rob was a friend to everyone at the office, and respected ALL of us for our contributions. Working with him was never a stressful thing, he took interest in every detail. Clearly his successful business life is rooted in the deep devotion and love of his family. He was so proud of all of you. In the years before he retired, Rob’s office was near the employee entrance. His smile greeted us at the beginning of each day, and at the end of a long day, his office door was wide open for whatever advice was needed, or whatever issue needed a good airing out!! His retirement left a hole in our office, his passing punched a big one in our hearts. He was one of the truly good ones!!!

Shannon and family,
We are so saddened and heartbroken for all that your family has endured. Rob was such a great guy. Our memories will always be of Rob’s big smile and his gracious way. We are so lucky to have known him in this life and hopefully in the next. Sending our heartfelt sympathy and prayers for your comfort and peace.
To Robs Family,
Rob always talked about his family and it was easy to feel the love of family he had. Rob was always taking good care of his family working on the house, cars, bikes and such making sure everyone was taken care of no matter what. He was by his wife’s side through the recent times to be supportive and loving as she endured medical issues of her own. He was always a positive figure in anyone’s life he touched. Nothing seemed to keep him down as he only saw the good in every situation. I had the pleasure of working with Rob for 20 years. He was a wealth of knowledge, a supportive and positive influence, as well as a good friend. If only the world was filled with people only half as good as Rob, this world could not be in a better place. I will miss Rob with his smile and positive attitude he always met me with. My condolences to all of his family and those who were touched by his life. He will be missed greatly. I only wish I had taken Rob up on the many instances he tried to get me to go on an outing with him. He always said to live life to its fullest everyday and be the best you can be everyday. From the wonderful video, it appears Rob lived life at its fullest. I wish his family love, strength, and peace in this time of need. I know he was called home as he was the best of us. He is needed to continue God’s work. We hope to see you when we are called home. It will be all too long of a wait.
Rob was such a great help and wonderful to work with. Prayers going out to his family as I know he will be very missed!
Rob,
We never had the pleasure of meeting you but from the stories and notes left by your family and friends can see that you left quite an impact on so many. It seems you lived life to the fullest and took great pride in being a good friend and most importantly being a great father and husband.
Although we know you will be missed immensely by the ones you loved so fiercely. Your legacy will live on through your amazing children and grandchildren that we are now blessed to call friends. To Rob’s family we pray that you will experience comfort and peace. That you will feel Robs presence all around you every day and take comfort in knowing this separation is only temporary. You will all be together again one day.
Sending love and hugs,
Megan & Michaul Hainzinger
We are so sorry to hear about Rob. It won’t be the same not chatting with him over the fence in our back yards. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know if we can help with anything.
