Paula Waggener, 88, a resident of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the Village Care Center in Lee’s Summit, MO. She was born July 28, 1934 to Paul and Grace (Nelson) Harbor in St. Louis, MO.
She graduated High School at the age of 16 and went on to the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in Education. It was there where she met her husband at the Shack, a local establishment at Mizzou across from Jesse Hall, claiming when he walked in she said who is that and claimed the man she would marry in what turned out to be a true love story. They married and moved to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC where Paula was a first grade teacher. Ron completed basic training with the Marine Corp and was sent overseas to Lebanon for 9 mos. Eventually, they moved back to the Kansas City area where they would call home and raise a family. Paula continued her teaching with the Parents as Teachers’ Program and Kindergarten Round Up in the Independence School District where she touched many children’s lives. Paula was the kindest sweetest soul and the world feels a little darker without her in it. She was her granddaughter’s favorite playmate growing up, her biggest cheerleader, and now the family guardian angel. You never questioned how much she loved you because she never held back on letting you know. She always put everyone before herself and every time you hugged her to tell her goodbye she’d make you promise to “stay safe and be happy”. That sums up everything she wanted for her family. She would say you don’t need to come by but I love to hear your voice and at least let me know when you get where you’re going that you’re safe! I don’t think she would have passed until she was confident that everyone was taken care of and truly happy. She said as much in her last days. Her great grandson was born 3 weeks before she passed and he was all she could talk about. She will be truly missed by all, but she is at peace and went to be with the love of her life just where she wanted to be. There aren’t enough words to describe the kind of person she was, but the world would be a better place with more people like her in it.
She was united in marriage to Ronald Waggener on February 9, 1957 in St. Louis, MO. Married for 66 years before Ron passed away February 6 of this year. They were inseparable throughout life.
Survived by her daughter, Penny Waggener of Boulder, CO; son, Rick Waggener of Lee’s Summit, MO; granddaughter, Carley Waggener, fiancé Josh Johnson and great grandson, Parks Johnson of Oklahoma City; grandson, Cameron Kaufman of Liberty, MO sister, Barbara Stolz of St. Louis, MO.
Her family will receive friends and family from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2023 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs. Memories of Paula and words of comfort for her family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.
