Norma L. Sherry, 87, of Platte City MO passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Norma was born on August 6, 1936 in Barnard, MO to Orbin and Mary Owens. She grew up in the Northwest Missouri area and graduated from South Nodaway High School in 1954, where she was a star basketball player. In an era not conducive to female athletes, she continued to play the game she loved even after graduation.
She met her husband, Willis C. Sherry, in high school and they were married November 22, 1956. Over their 70 years together, they raised six children: Dennis, Devin, Derek, Denise, Darrin and Dawn. Norma was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her family first even as she helped to support their growing household. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary next month.
Not only were Norma and Willis husband and wife, but they worked together side by side as partners and best friends throughout their lives. As a successful businesswoman, she was the co-founder of Sherry Realty and Timber Creek Sewer Company, and a top-selling real estate producer at the national level for numerous years. She also helped pioneer several real estate developments in the northland. Norma contributed greatly to the growth of the community.
Norma was a do-er and if she set her mind to it she would get it done. But her real reward came from helping families. Her impact on the hundreds of families she affected was one of the things she was most proud of.
It’s hard to sum up someone’s life in a few paragraphs, but it wouldn’t be complete without saying that Norma was respected and admired for her ability to help people and how much she admired her children.
Her eyes would always light up when you talked about her grandchildren and great grandchildren which she truly adored.
Norma is survived by her husband, Willis; her six children and their spouses, Dennis (Gerry), Devin (Lori), Derek (Stacy), Denise Sewell (Steve), Darrin (Deanna), and Dawn Jamison (Craig);
9 Grandchildren – Matthew (CeeCee) Sherry, Tyler (Amanda) Sherry, Brandon (Kaitlyn) Sherry, Kaleb (Christina) Sherry, Nicole (Joe) Strub, Cory (Bethany) Williams, Jordan Sherry, Lieana Sherry, Emily (Adam) Morrison; her sister, Carol Hale; and her sister-in-law, Della Owens.
11 Great Grandchildren – Logan, Jennifer, Hudson, Dominic, Jaclyn, Ryan, Ava, Nathan, Skylar, Berkley and Cohen.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers: Dale, Gary, Bob, Tommy, and sister Lucinda.
Norma’s life was a testament to her strength, determination, and love for her family, friends and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Norma’s life at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville on Thursday, November 2, 2023. The visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Brady Testorff will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at the Platte City Cemetery. Memories of Norma and condolences may be shared at Meyersfuneralchapel.com.

She was a lovely lady and so proud of her family. Kay
So very sorry for you loss. Norma was someone I looked up in the real estate community. She was a sweet dear friend for my first years working in the real estate business. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
I loved this woman’s grit! That and her love and pride of family will always be remembered. RIP Norma.
Dawn and Family,
Norma was always so good to me back in the real estate days. She would take me out and allow me to shadow her on showings. She was the first agent I remember having crayons and coloring books for her clients’ children and so generous with her buyer’s housewarming gifts when they would close on their home.
As mentioned, she always loved talking about you all and she was beyond proud of each one of you. She was one of a kind! Praying the Lords perfect peace as you all grieve and also celebrate her life.
Dave and I are so very sorry for your loss. Norma was so kind to us. Good lady ! Prayers to you and your family. RIP Norma 💖
Denise,
Thinking if you and your family. Your mom sounds amazing. She will be missed.
