Gayle Lee (McGuire) Stowell, 84, a resident of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, October 9, 2022 in Lee’s Summit, MO. Gayle was born November 21, 1937 to George and Georgia McGuire as a late in life blessing. Younger than her siblings by 10 to 20 years, she lived a charmed life on the family farm on 40 Highway and then later in Blue Springs. In 1954 she met the love of her life on a blind date. Just a year later she and Ronald Stowell were married in the First United Methodist Church in Blue Springs. They had their son Chris the next year; he was joined by a sister, Robin, four years later. Gayle had several jobs but the one that mattered the most to her was her 34 years as the Assistant to the Superintendent in the R-4 School District. She was the professional assistant to four different superintendents and served as the Secretary to the Board of Education. She retired in 2000 to enjoy their home at Lake Tapawingo. They sold that home and moved to Lee’s Summit where they stayed until her death. She had a huge heart, an incredible sense of humor and a smile and laugh that were impossible to resist.
She leaves her husband of 67 years, Ron; her children Chris and his wife Karyla and Robin and her husband Mark. She had four grandsons – Christopher (Brenda), Matthew, Craig (Annie) and Ben (Kassie). She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Baleigh, Hannah and Landon and her step-great-grandchild, Ben Jacobs. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Jean and Geraldine and her brother Vernon as well as her step-great -grandson Nick Kjelsrud.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at The Summit Church, 3381 NW Chipman Road in Lee’s Summit. Visitation at 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a celebration of life at beginning 11:00 a.m. Ashes will be buried in the Blue Springs Cemetery. Please no flowers. Our condolences to the family. My heart hurts knowing I won’t hear this spunky gal keep us in our place. What a blessing she’s been to her family and others. It helps knowing she’s looking out for us.
