Robert Allen Van Horn, 89, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2022. At the time of his passing, Mr. Van Horn was at home under hospice care. He was born May 9, 1933 in Gravette, AR to Wallace and Lottie (Bryant) Van Horn.
Bob graduated from North Kansas City High School, and proudly served in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict. He had a long and rewarding career as a machinist for American Can Company, making Folgers coffee cans. He retired after 30 years. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and had a passion for his craft. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, taking yearly trips to Florida, going to garage sales, listening to country music and trout fishing. He will be dearly missed.
He married Betty Jean Pollard on November 29, 1952 in Harrison, AR. In addition to Betty, survivors include his three sons: Robert Jeffrey Van Horn and wife, Katie of Orlando, FL; Timothy Allen Van Horn and wife, Denise of Gladstone, MO, and William D. “Bill” Van Horn of Smithville, MO; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family and friends.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery in the upcoming weeks. We will update this website as soon as s details have been finalized.
