Montie Elaine Essman, 70, of Oak Grove, MO passed away peacefully October 27, 2023. At the time of her passing, she was at home under hospice care, surrounded in love by her family.
She was born March 21, 1953 in Hays, KS to Norman and Martha (Turnbull) Drotts. Montie worked the majority of her career as a level 1 certified medical technician. Prior to that, her and her husband owned a hair salon in Topeka for 14 years. She was one of the most caring people God ever created. She had a true love for people and a caring soul. This spunky little “bad ass” of a person will be missed by many. She also enjoyed fishing and she was always up for a good cheeseburger.
She married the love of her life and husband of 42 years, Rickey W. Essman on May 9, 1981 in Topeka. Following their time in Topeka, the couple lived in Blue Springs for 20 plus years and have resided in Oak Grove for the last two years.
In addition to Rick, survivors include four children: Michelle Snow and husband, Kevin, Erika Essman, Roberta Hovey and husband, Braden, and Christopher Essman; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Michael Artzer.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Montie’s life 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the White Oaks Crossing Clubhouse in Oak Grove, MO. Arrangements by Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs.
