Michael Edward Davis, 80, Blue Springs, MO, passed away May 10, 2022 at home with his family by his side. Michael was born in Kansas City, MO, to Ernest Edward Davis and Louise Frances Pieckrell. He married the love of his life Vicky on July 3, 1982 in Las Vegas, NV, and they were looking forward to celebrating their 40th Anniversary in July.
Mike graduated from Kansas City (MO) East High School in 1960. He went on to the Kansas City (MO) Junior College and earned an Associate Arts Degree in 1962. That was followed by the earning of a Bachelor of Journalism Degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1964. For about 15 years he was a practicing journalist and photojournalist. In the mid 1970’s he formed a corporation and became the publisher and editor of a new newspaper, the Raytown Post. A shopper publication called the “Door Post” was added as was an existing newspaper. There were several other publishers over the next three decades. Following the sale of the newspaper in late 1977 he went to work for Jackson County Government. He earned a Master’s of Public Administration Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. County positions included Election Director and Corrections Department Case Manager. He was a Jackson County Government employee nearly 20 years. He spent about 10 years in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves. Later, he joined the United States Army National Guard and spend a dozen years on active duty in the United States Army. He continued his writing over the years and self-published over a dozen books. He returned to his journalism roots to help produce a 50th High School Graduation booklet with some of the same people he worked with over 50 years before on his high school yearbook. Mike was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs, MO.
Mike loved to read books of any kind. He has read over 100,000 books in his lifetime. He enjoyed taking photographs and he won several awards in photography. He liked vacationing at Walt Disney World, and especially enjoyed riding roller coasters, including Space Mountain with his grandson, Corbin.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife, Vicky, four children, Julie Ann Wilson, Lee’s Summit, MO, Stephen Michael Davis (Rebekah), Blue Springs, MO, Christopher Matthew Maxon (Tiffany), Kansas City, MO and Amelia Marie Davis, Blue Springs, MO, his sister, Kitty Tower, Independence, MO, as well as six grandchildren; Jacob, Emma (Max), Jonathan, Abigale, Reagan, and Corbin. He also had a beloved service dog, Sophie, she was his devoted and loved companion and was always by his side.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO, on June 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike’s name are suggested to One Community Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.
