Maxine Cox was released to Heaven on May 10, 2022, where she is happily reuniting with her husband, Duane Sherman Cox, her sister Eileen (Smith) Patrick, and her brother, Bill “Sonny” Smith. She is survived by two children, Christopher S. Cox (Laurie) of Los Angeles, California and Juliet A. Cox of Kansas City, Missouri, and two grandchildren, Carson S. Cox and Abigail J. Cox of Los Angeles, California.
Maxine was raised in Eminence, Missouri and graduated from Eminence High School, after which she moved to Springfield, Missouri, where she met Duane at a social sorority dance. They raised their family in St. Louis, Missouri.
Maxine never met a dog or a child who didn’t adore her and vice versa. While working full time in Duane’s law practice, she never missed one of her children’s (many, many) sports games, or an opportunity to be a room mother in their schools or a den mother for cub scouts. Maxine had a keen, but subtle sense of humor, was kind, thoughtful, smart, a fierce protector of her family, and always saw the bright side no matter how difficult a situation might be. Maxine was an active participant in her church, starting out by playing the piano for Sunday services at a young age. She will be deeply missed by all her knew her. Maxine’s family gains peace knowing that she no longer clings to the old rugged cross but has exchanged it today for a crown.
A private interment will take place Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Stephens Cemetery near Lebanon, MO, where she will be laid to rest next to Duane. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held later this summer. Memories of Maxine and condolences may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com
