Matthew David Stallbories, 62, of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully Thursday, June 22, 2023. He was born on July 21, 1960 to Charles Matthew and Helen Lorene (Conwell) Stallbories in Independence, Missouri.
Matthew David Stallbories, or “Uncle Butthead” as he was affectionately known by his family, graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1978. Matt was a very loving individual who enjoyed helping others and working as a handyman for anyone that needed his talents. He spent his time loafing around his pool, and he was happy to share this time with those around him. He mastered the art of barbecuing and storytelling, and he always had a captive audience for both.
One of Matt’s many titles was Godfather. He was asked to be the Godfather of many children, some being his nieces and nephews. Matt was also part of a very special group of people that provided him with fellowship in which he discovered a new design for living.
During his working career, Matt spent 43 years with the railroad. He retired as a Signal Maintainer. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.
Matthew is survived by his 4 siblings: Larry Benson of Raytown, Missouri; Robin Bryan of Grain Valley, Missouri; Adam Stallbories and his wife Reneé of Maysville, Missouri; and Nora Martin and her husband David of Blue Springs, Missouri. Matt is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathy Poore.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs, Missouri. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow the visitation, starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W Main Blue Springs. Memories of Matt and words of comfort for his family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.
I’m really going to miss our family get togethers at your place as I’m sure a lot of us will. I really enjoyed when you came to visit me in Schell. It was the first time we had a one on one conversation. You were such a caring person and always helping someone that needed it. It’s true that only the good die young. It’s probably why I’m still here.
My hugs and prayers to your family. I’m sure they are still in misbelief of your passing like I am. Love you all.
Words alone cannot express my gratitude for all that Matt has done for not only me but also for my family. Some of my favorite memories are of Matt and I doing volunteer work all over the metro and grabbing a bite to eat afterwards. Rest in peace buddy, your legacy will never be forgotten.
I am sorry for your loss. Wishing you peace and strength during this difficult time. Your family is in my prayers.
Love and prayers.
I worked around Matt several years and always enjoyed his company and his stories. Definitely a Jack of all trades. Sorry for your loss.
Matt always had a place for me to stay when I was visiting – even opened his home to other family members to come by & visit while I was in town. Tho he referred to me as his “Aunt Problem” he would spoil me & bring me coffee in bed if Roger wasn’t with me. In past years, when he was visiting the dance clubs/bars, he never acted embarrassed to dance with me or any of his other aunts. I will cherish the good memories both past and recent – there are no bad ones. My heart & love goes out to the brothers, sisters, nieces & nephews that he left so suddenly….Aunt Kay
Matt was an exceptional person. Our family has known him for nearly 50 years. I went to St Mary’s with him, and then a few years later he moved across the street from my family. We decided to ‘adopt’ him, my whole family loved him so much! And to this day he has remained is our lives almost on a weekly basis. Our lives will be less complete without him. Within the last year, he has been instrumental in aiding Phyllis Miller, our mother, showing off his handy-man skills, and of course charming her with kindness, his bright eye’s and smiles. Matt was one of a kind and we will miss his easy nature and beautiful soul. Rest is peace our sweet friend. We will never forget you.
I did not wantTo say goodbye to Matt! Matt was more than a friend, he was a family member to me and my whole family. He was one of the truest most genuine people I have ever known! He will be forever missed and never forgotten! Rest in peace my brother my friend, The world will be a colder place without you!
I have thought about what I wanted to say about my cousin Matt best friend, and this is it, He was an Angel from Heaven sent from God to bless peoples lives and he did just that, and now he is home with God. Our hearts are so broken, we’re going to miss this awesome guy, Love u Matt
I just found out about Matt’s passing and I want to offer my condolences to his surviving family and friends.
Matt was one of the best people I’ve ever known, I loved him like family and will miss him so much. He never had a bad thing to say to me, or about anyone. Matt was a source of comfort in my life many times & I am so grateful to have had him as my friend. I’ll see you on the flipside, Matt.
Until then, Rest in peace.
