Mary Magdalene Weixeldorfer, 92, a Lee’s Summit, MO resident, formerly of Blue Springs, Missouri, went to be home with Our Lord and her husband of 53 years, Homer Weixeldorfer, peacefully at her daughter’s home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri on April 11, 2023. Mary was born on August 14, 1930, to Victor and Narcissa (Dodge) Striegel in Salisbury, Missouri. In 1962, Mary was united in marriage to Homer Weixeldorfer in Independence, Missouri.
Mary graduated from Central High School in Kansas City. After school, she went to work for Russell Stover Chocolates in Kansas City, Missouri. She later worked for Southwest Phone Company and she later worked as a caregiver for the Lakewood State School.
Mary was instrumental in creating and operating the “Special Department” at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, which Mary considered to be her life’s GREATEST achievement! She started the program with 3 children and grew that ministry to fifty children, today there are over 100 participants. She also started a group called “Parents Night Out”, which now has well over 100 participants. These “special people” were her life, in her own words, “her salvation.” She was very proud to have led hundreds of lives to Jesus Christ, and always said it was only accomplished through Jesus Christ. She was merely His vessel. Anyone who knew Mary could not only see Christ but feel Christ in Mary. Shortly before her husband became ill, she turned her dream over to someone else to run, so she could care for him in his final years.
Mary is survived by her children: Kayleen Watkins of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Linda Taylor and her husband Gary of Liberty, Missouri; Susan Best and her husband Roger of Kansas; Robert Weixeldorfer and his wife Rhonda of Lovick, Texas, Homer F. Weixeldorfer of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Sheryl Weixeldorfer of Kansas City, Missouri. Mary is also survived by her brother: Louis Striegel; 12 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren and 1 nephew and 3 nieces. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her sister-in-law; Shirley Striegel.
Mary will truly be missed. Mary was instrumental in my coming the the Special Ministry. She was like a second Mom to me, always picking me up when I was down. She came to the rescue of many families. She was my grandchildrens grandma, supplieing many memories. She was instrumental in all the special peoples garage sales, the group home out by the Baptist home. Love her so much, and I will always have her in my heart.
