Mary Elizabeth Thurston, age 64, lost her battle with cancer on October 11, 2022.
Born on July 17, 1958 to Gerald and Jacqueline (Bengtson) Thurston, Mary graduated from Cass Midway High School in 1976. When she began working at the Internal Revenue Service, it became her lifetime career for over 38 years before her retirement. Little did she know the multitude of friends she would meet and the travels she would have. Mary loved watching the KC Royals and Chiefs, enjoyed spending time with her family and being the best Nana.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Jacqueline and brother Bill. Mary leaves behind her father, Gerald and siblings John (Pam), Allen (Michel), Joe (Wendy), Patricia (Bob), Vicki, Paul (Dana), Robert (Lisa), Ann (Virginia), and many nieces and nephews. She was godmother and Nana to many who will miss her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, MO. A Committal Service will immediately follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to NorthCare Hospice. Memories of Mary and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.

To all my cousins, your siblings, Mary, I send my love and prayers. I loved your positive vibes & sense of humor.
Mary, you were my friend for 40+ years. When we were young we danced, when we got older we shared our stories at family events and then when we even got older we just sat and talked about the time we danced. I miss you already, love you always.
Jerry, we are deeply saddened by the news of your loss. Our most sincere condolences to you and your family.
So sorry to hear about Mary. Knew her many years at IRS . When she got her house in Ruskin she invited me over for her most delicious tuna casserole and to see her house. Was really proud of it and the work her dad was helping her do.
Mary was my dear friend for almost 45 years. Although I have not seen her for many years, I will always remember her as a kind and loving woman. She fought valiantly for so many years . My consolation is to know she suffers no more. I will always love you.
