Mary Margaret Maag, 85, a parishioner of St. Therese Catholic Church and a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospice House. Mary was born September 17, 1932 to Henry Thomas and May Louise (Kuntz) Hoffman in Oneonta, N.Y.
Mary was united in marriage with Jerome “Jerry” B. Maag on November 29, 1952 in Leavenworth, KS.
She will be remembered as a generous, loyal and trusting woman, who always had a listening ear. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and researching family genealogy. She showed an interest and appreciation in Native American Indian Culture and history; was active in the Platte County Republican Party for many years. Mary worked for the Platte County Collector’s office, American Bank, and Park University until she retired at the age of 70. Instead of relaxing, she got her real estate license (a lifelong dream) and helped people find homes until heart problems forced her into retirement.
Her passion was spending time outside in her garden, where she grew everything from fresh vegetables to beautiful flowers. Her backyard garden was photographed and featured in several Northland magazines; displaying her beautiful canvas of colors. Mary was also a member of the White Alloe DAR, Parkville Chapter and the Arts and Literature Club.
She will be buried at Fort Leavenworth Cemetery with her husband, Jerry Maag, on the very spot where they met in 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry B. Maag; a son, Jerome Maag, Jr.; both parents; 2 sisters: Irene and Loretta; and a brother, Henry. Survived by three children: son, Christopher Maag (Teresa) of Kansas City (North), MO; daughters: Kathleen Cruden of Belton, MO and Celeste Oster (Don) of Overland Park, KS; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Therese Catholic Church 7207 N.W. Highway 9, Kansas City, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Cisetti presiding. A Committal Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018 at Ft.
