Mary Ruth Hodges, 87, of Independence, Missouri entered into Heaven’s gates November 27th and is now with her Lord, loving her husband, many family members and friends. Funeral services are 10:30 am Tuesday December 3rd at Meyers Blue Springs Funeral Chapel, with visitation preceding the services 9:30 – 10:30 am. Burial is at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Mary married her late husband Paul on August 2, 1947 in Salem, Arkansas, and they lived in Kansas City, Missouri for more than 68 years until their health failed. She was a teacher’s aide at Benjamin Harrison Elementary School and James Elementary School, both in Kansas City, Missouri. Mary worked as a cashier at Robert Hall Clothing in Kansas City, Missouri, and in the security department at the Blue Ridge Mall. She attended Full Gospel Churches. For the last 4 years she was lovingly cared for by the nurses and aides at Maywood Living Center in Independence.
Preceding Mary in death were her husband, Paul Hodges, her parents, Lehman and Etta (Barker) Spence, infant sister, Norma Spence, sisters, Lucille White, Roberta Crane, Maudie Griffin, and a brother, David Spence. Survivors include her children, Gary (June) Hodges, Patricia (Ted) Giefer, siblings, Billy (Deanna) Spence, Lehman (Alice) Spence Jr., brothers in law, Emmette Crane, Ray Griffin, Cranford (Gay) Hodges, Woodrow Hodges, sisters in law, Corene Hodges, Virginia Ashley, 8 grandchildren, Angela (Bruce), Timmy (Kathy), Melissa (David), Tommy (Tiffany), Jacinda, Valerie, Anthony (Shelby), Andrew (Jordan), 16 great grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Makayla, Abigail, Isaiah, Riley, Emily, Chase, Kyleigh, Tristan, Paisley, Jace, Aiden, Natalie, Derrick, Avery, Livia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
