Marshall Dickerson “Mac” McClure, 88, of Platte Woods, MO passed away December 24, 2014 at his home. He was born March 13, 1926 in Kearney, NE to Hugh Montgomery McClure II and Margaret (Dickerson) McClure. He graduated high school in Chicago, IL. He was drafted into the United States Army at age 18 and after 21 years of service retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He earned a BS in Military Studies from the University of Maryland.
Mac served his community, city, state and country in various capacities throughout his life. A few of those included the Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross, where he was made an honorary lifetime board member and in 1993 was awarded the State of Missouri Distinguished Volunteer Service Award. He was active in the Parkville Rotary Club serving as President in 1984-85. Mac was a member of the Military Affiliate Radio System and the Platte County Amateur Radio Emergency Service. He was mayor of Platte Woods from 1981-84. He served as a lay reader in his church for 53 years. Mac’s life goal was to give more than he took.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Barbara McClure Killebrew and a brother, Hugh M. McClure, III. Survivors include his wife and best friend of 49 years, Charlotte M. Mathews McClure; son, Mark McClure; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday January 12, 2015 from 3-7:00 p.m. at their home in Platte Woods. A memorial service celebrating Mac’s life will be held at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday January 15, 2015. A committal service will follow at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
