Lester Cecil Bennett “Les”, 93, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 26, 2020 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO. He was born February 7, 1927 to Henry and Florrie (Smith) Bennett in Bladenboro, NC.
Les served his country proudly in the United States Army. He started out as a private in 1944 and graduated as an Armored Officer in 1947. Les retired from the United States Army in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Mast on September 28, 1950 in Junction City, KS. Les enjoyed being on Facebook, playing world of tanks, reading newspapers and discussing politics. He will be remembered for his joke telling and dry sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Thomey, of Grain Valley, MO; sons, David Bennett and wife Sally of Kansas City, MO, and Mark Bennett (Angel Burbaugh) of Kansas City, MO; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, William Mast of Bonner Springs, KS; sister-in-law, Ryoko Mast of Kansas City, KS. Les is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bennett; parents, Henry and Florrie Bennett; brothers, John and Robert Bennett.
Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2020 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO. Private funeral service will follow at 1100 a.m. at the chapel. All COVID-19 guidelines will be enforced and anyone attending will be required to wear a mask. Interment will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, KS.
