Funeral services for Lanny Bennefeld Sr. will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 9020 E 51st Terrace, Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. His family will receive family and friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the start of mass. Burial will follow at the Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. Lanny Lee Bennefeld Sr., 89, a resident of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. He was born April 16, 1934 to Elmer and Bessie (Martin) Bennefeld in Kansas City, MO.
Lanny was a 1953 graduate of Raytown High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Army as a medic assigned to the 57 field hospital, while stationed in Toul, France. Lanny was united in marriage to Carol Kieff on June 2, 1956 at the Nativity Catholic Church in Independence, MO. Lanny worked for General Motors, retiring as a quality control inspector and the most senior associate at the Leeds assembly plant. He had a lifelong hobby of constructing and displaying balsawood models of vintage aircraft. Lanny was also very involved with Boy Scouts volunteering for many years as a leader for Troop #469 and helping all four of his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed spending time at the family’s lake cabin in the Ozarks. Helping family members to build, repair, and restore homes, as well as automobile repair and restoration. Lanny also hosted the annual back to school breakfast for all the grandchildren. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and Holiday gatherings especially Fourth of July fireworks and shooting contests.
Survived by his loving wife, Carol Bennefeld of Kansas City, MO; children, Lanny Bennefeld Jr. (Dana) of Blue Springs, MO, Robert Bennefeld (Cathy) Harrisonville, MO, David Bennefeld (Mary) of Raytown, MO, Craig Bennefeld of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Danielle, Shannon, Brandon, Aaron, Sarah, Christine, Katy, Tom, Brad, Cassandra, Lucy; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Clay, Kathrine, Colter, Stella, Owen, Skylar; siblings, Linda Ison. Lanny is preceded in death by his daughter, Lesa Bennefeld; parents; siblings, Mary Lou, Donald Bennefeld, Ronald Bennefeld.
Sorry to hear of Lanny’s passing…He was my cousin. He never could tell which one was which between my and my twin sister, Marlene.
