Survived by husband Charles and daughter Lara of Kansas City, MO and her brother Bob Monaghan and sister-in-law Marcia Mueller of Kirkswood, MO.
Kathy was a much loved wife, mother and sister. She grew up in Gillispie, IL where she was the darling of her family. She eventually worked at the Illinois Department of Public Health where she would meet and fall in love with her husband. They married on June 20, 1970. She supported her husband in his times of need and helped her daughter strive for academic excellence.
She had a strong spirit – surviving breast cancer, a major car accident and a stroke. Her accepting nature allowed her to continue to enjoy life even while learning to walk again and teaching herself to write after her 2009 stroke.
Kathy will be remembered as a lover of birds and gardens, french silk pie, blue nail polish, weather forecasts, her pet shelties and Thanksgiving turkey. Also, she instilled a love of soap operas in her husband and live music and cooking in her daughter. Incidentally, her husband still does not enjoy decorating the mantel for seasonal changes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at St. Therese Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Cisetti as celebrant. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to Mass. Burial will follow at Resurrection North Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Powell Gardens, 160 N.W. U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO 64061 or online at powellgardens.org.
