Juanita spent the majority of her working years at the Credit Bureau of Greater Kansas City and then for the Bank of Oskaloosa, KS. While in Oskaloosa, she also owned Dishtique, a small antique shop that specialized in dishes. Juanita loved spending time with her family and visiting with her friends. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing, listening to music and was an avid bowler.
She married Nelson O. Slavens on January 19, 1946 in Harrison, AR. Mr. Slavens preceded her in death on November 8, 2012. They will be together for their 71st wedding anniversary. In addition to Nelson, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Frances and Edna. Survivors include three children, Gary Slavens (Cindy) of Parkville, MO, Gayle Young of Kansas City, MO and Pete Slavens (Teresa) of Parkville, MO; two sisters, Shirley McKnight and Lola Jean; two brothers, Hank Jarman and Les Jarman; seven grandchildren, Richard, Steven, Dustin, Alex, Stacy, Kelli and Andrew; five great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville. A graveside service will follow at the Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to NorthCare Hospice House and may be left in care of the funeral home.
