Joyce Lynn Pellegrino, 71, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO (formerly of Floyd, NY) passed away Monday, January 11, 2021, with her loving family by her side. Joyce was born July 12, 1949, to Albert Flay and Clara Anne (Bruemmer) Varner in Greenwich, CT.
Joyce had a deeply personal faith in Jesus. She often turned to the Psalms to seek the comfort and joy that would sustain her throughout her whole life. Because of her commitment to peace and justice, she was active in the anti-Vietnam War movement during the late 60’s.
She enjoyed crafting home décor, jewelry boxes, and wreaths for family and friends; she was a prolific journaler and writer throughout her life. Most of all, Joyce will be remembered for her sharp sense of humor and perseverance.
Joyce is survived by her two daughters: Jenna Breeding and husband William; Rev. Kari Pellegrino and husband Rev. Steven Andrews; five grandchildren; a brother, Alan Varner and wife Christine. She was preceded in death by both parents.
The Pellegrino family wishes to thank the staff at Liberty Health and Wellness and St. Luke’s Hospice for the loving care they provided to Joyce.
A Virtual Visitation will be available from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021. A Service in Celebration of Joyce’s life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 via Zoom. Details may be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/232180375234349.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donation be made to Joyce’s congregation in the Northland: Parkville Presbyterian Church, 819 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152; and Joyce’s hometown church: Redeeming Love Fellowship Church, 9011 Route #365, Stittville, NY 13469. Inurnment will take place later this spring in Connecticut. Memories of Joyce and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com
I’m so Blessed to have met Joyce and received a big smile from her months ago. She was a lovely lady.
My Deepest Condolences.
I’m so very sorry for the loss of your mom girls. You both were the the most important piece of her she talked about you both regularly. I had the pleasure of working with Joyce at MetLife. You are in my prayers.
I had the distinct pleasure of working with Joyce at MetLife many years ago. She was a gracious lady. I am so sorry for your great loss. Have faith that she is in a good place now.
My prayers for you, though belated are truly heartfelt and filled with love for all of you. It’s been some time since I’ve checked messages and just learned about your moms passing. So many of the memories I have with her are her stories of her beloved girls, family, friends and of course Marilyn. Isn’t it wonderful to have memories as you do? Both your Mom and I moved and I haven’t seen her. Thinking of times together puts us together again.
One of my favorites is the surprise party for me. I wasn’t there and hadn’t known to be anywhere after work. So much fun when I got there.
I always learned from your Moms voracious appetite for learning. Be it music, faith, history …any topic really .
Love to all of you
