Jonathan E. Brimmer, 57, of Kansas City, MO passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in Ottawa, KS. Jonathan Edwin Brimmer, affectionately known as JB, was born to the late Ira Brimmer, Jr. and late Wylene Brimmer on September 27, 1960 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. No, this is not a mistake; JB was the only member of his family not born in Georgia. In May of 1969, he moved to New Jersey with his parents, and only sibling, Winifred (Levester) Edwards. He lived most of his childhood and young adult life in Irvington, New Jersey and claims it as his hometown.
He graduated from Irvington’s Frank H. Morrell High School in 1978. An exceptional student, Jonathan was DECA’s student of the year and earned a full scholarship to Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Services, in 1982. While at Johnson & Wales, JB and 5 others founded Lambda Omicron Sigma Fraternity.
In 1984, he moved to Parkville, Missouri to be close to his parents. Starting his own family 1987. He loved the service industry. Dedicating most of his life to enhancing the day of the people he served. Of his various employers he was most fond of the years he spent as the Woodlands Race Track Clubhouse, hospitality manager.
JB loved Christ, children, and music. He was an active church member from the time he was five years old. Singing in the choir, serving on the usher board and Sunday School teacher and junior superintendent. As an adult, JB ministered to people others often forgot about in homeless shelters. He never gave up on anyone and would share the Word regularly. Jonathan was a father of four daughters, Jari’s (JR) Kindred, Tasha Hayes, Erika West, and Taj Brimmer; one granddaughter, Tiye Kindred; and a goddaughter, Allison Gentry. His love for children was shown through his ability to make any child smile or laugh hysterically. He enjoyed caring for his girls and even had his own trademarked hairstyle known as the “Uncle JB Style.” He loved loud music and had an impressive album and CD collection full, including his favorites Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, and the Jackson 5. Known for his unwavering team spirit. Most people knew he was a true aqua & orange fan of the Miami Dolphins; win, lose or lose.
JB was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to continue his legacy his aunts, Kate Singleton of Valdosta, GA, Charlene Singleton of Detroit, MI; his sister, Winifred (Levester) Edwards of Gladstone, MO; daughters: Jari’s (JR) Kindred of Shawnee, KS; Tasha Hayes of Gardner, KS; Erika West of Manhattan, KS and Taj Brimmer of Kansas City, KS; granddaughter Tiye; nieces:, Jasmine (Moses) Fields and Daphne Rambo: nephew Edsel Edwards; great nieces and nephews including DeRion Rambo, DeJenet Rambo and Cherish Edwards; a host of cousins, loved ones, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. ~ 11:00a.m., Friday, December 8, 2017 at Meyers Northland Chapel, Parkville, MO. A funeral service celebrating Jonathan’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday at the chapel. Memories of JB and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com

Brimmer, who I affectionately called Grump y Old Man, the world will not be same without you. Who could make a guest feel welcomed at a drop of a notice. Who would not let the ladies of BW work alone without at least 3 trips down to check on us. You were nothing but a friend when I needed one a sounding board that gave good advice. I miss you…..
Some people can be in your life for years and mean nothing. Some can be there for a little while and everytime you think of them the memory makes you smile. J.B. was one of them. Rest easy my brother.
Jb was a great guy. Very intelligent and we’ll informed. Knew him only a short time. He will truly be missed.

As usual I’m at a loss for words JB. We truly shared a bond that few know about. The years in Providence and Irvington were priceless. We could walk into each others home without the other and our families treated us no different. It will be difficult my friend not hearing your advice or laugh in my ear but I know you will still guide me. We never told each other the simple phrase,,,I love you. We were guys! I feel foolish now not telling you but I think you knew. After 39 years I hope so! I’m not the most religious or have the strongest faith my brother but I do believe Everything is in Divine Order. We will see each other again. Until then rest easy my brother,,,I love you.

To the Family…. JB’s light was shown bright to all who came in contact with. We were blessed to meet him at J&W (JWU) and he was such a joy to be around. Our hearts are heavy as our prayers and thoughts are with you. He will forever remain in our hearts. Our big brother he will always be.
I know I’m late, but my going to miss you man, and I’m so sorry that this is coming late….my heart hurts for his family, and I lost a great man as a friend……rest well J
JB came to Johnson and Wales at beginning of the second trimester of our freshman year. After meeting him and his family moving in, that first night JB knocked on my door. Apparently his roommate didn’t want to have Black roommate and thus began a very close friendship. Add in Miles, and regardless of all the wonderful things that life has provided, my time at J/W still stands out as a special time in my life. I regret not maintaining those connections. It has taken this long to become composed enough to formulate my thoughts and words. RIP JB.
