
Johnny graduated from Wheatland High School in 1952. He began working at Sears in Kansas City a few weeks after graduation. He was a repair technician at Sears for 41 years, He served in the US Army from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany. He was united in marriage to Vivian in 1980 and enjoyed 40 happy years together. They loved to travel, touring the US starting with a 1978 Chevy van towing a camper trailer and upgrading to a motor home that took them and their schnauzer Holly across America. They enjoyed living the “snowbird” life in retirement and wintered in S. Texas every year. Johnny enjoyed playing volleyball, fixing cars, working in his garage, and starting playing bocce ball this past year.
Survived by his daughter, Johnna Velasquez and husband Abraham of Grain Valley, MO; step-children, Mark Anderson of Kansas and Linda Anderson of Mexico; grandchildren, Alec Velasquez and fiancé Megan Moore of Independence; Evan Velasquez of Blue Springs, MO; siblings, Clyde Ruckman and wife Phyllis of Kansas City, MO, Billy Joe Ruckman of New Melle, MO, Roy Ruckman and wife Wanda of Kansas City, MO, Jimmie Ruckman and wife Donna of Avery, MO, Hellen Jarrett and significant other Jesse Jordan of Springfield, MO. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, and parents.
His family will receive friends and family from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO. He was such a caring man, always polite and truly interested in sharing a conversation. Loved by many and I know he will be sincerely missed. My deepest sympathies to all the family.
