Family and friends will gather to visit and share memories of John on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, MO, from 5pm to 7pm.
John Orville VanCleave, 68, passed away on July 26, 2023. He was born on January 13, 1955 to Joseph and Clara (Walton) VanCleave.
John is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Joseph VanCleave and sister Judy Stillwell. Survivors include his wife Kathy, children Jennifer Miller and husband Ryan, Cristin VanCleave, brother Jack VanCleave and wife Sharon, and grandchildren Paige and John (JC) Miller.
After graduating from Park Hill High School, John worked in management for several trucking companies, most notably Belger Cartage Service, Lone Star Transportation and Burns Tractor Leasing. His career included travel around the United States and the opportunity to live in Montana, Texas, and Oklahoma.
He married Kathy Morrow on April 1, 1993, in Red Lodge, MT. Their April Fool’s anniversary was easy to remember and was a great example of their shared sense of humor.
John enjoyed riding his Harley, spending time with his grandchildren, and he was always ready for a good meal. He was an excellent cook and grill master who enjoyed sharing his talents. He could also recommend a restaurant in almost any city in the country. John was a gifted storyteller who brought laughter to every gathering.
Above all else, John loved his family. His grandchildren were a constant delight and he was happy to share with everyone their milestones and achievements. He embraced his unique nickname of “PimPa” proudly and with love.
John was a good hearted friend and family man who will be missed by all who knew him.
John was a sweet neighbor of ours for several years. I also knew his aunts, which included his mom. He will be missed.

John was one of those guys that you wanted to spend time with talking and joking. He had an incredible sense of humor and was a genuine nice person. I have known John most of my life and am thankful for his friendship. He will truly be missed.
