John Michael Duffey Welch, 22, of Gladstone, MO passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at the North Kansas City Hospital. He was born December 3, 1993 in Kansas City, MO to Michael Duffey Welch and Virginia Walenta. He was a life-long Northland resident and graduated from Oak Park High School in 2012.
Duffey was employed by Erosion Control Specialists in Riverside, MO. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, Bar-B-Ques, listening to music, and was an avid sports fan, especially enjoyed cheering on the St. Louis Rams and Iowa Hawkeyes.
The greatest joy in Duffey’s life was the time he was able to spend with his daughter, Olivia Lynn Welch. Peanut, as he called her, was his everything. In addition to Olivia, survivors include his parents, Mike and Virginia “Pic”; maternal grandmother, Kathleen Walenta; and several close cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Michael Welch, maternal grandfather, John Walenta and paternal grandmother, Jody Bedell.
The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery.
