John Edward Martinez, Sr. 78, a resident of Parkville, MO passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at his home with his loving family by his side. John was born August 14, 1940 to Lupe and Francis (Tafoya) Martinez in Walsenburg, CO.
Ed is a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Era.
He spent the majority of his working career as an autoworker for General Motors; he was hired in California, transferred to Kansas City, MO plant and retired from the Reno, NV after 30 years of dedicated service.
He was united in marriage with Susan Quigley on July 20, 1985 in Las Vegas, NV.
Ed will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Ed enjoyed playing the casino slots, watching old western movies; especially John Wayne movies. He also liked watching sports, but the Oakland Raiders were his all-time favorite team.
Ed is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan Martinez; six children: Lisa Jimenez of Sacramento, CA; John Martinez, Jr. of Sacramento, CA; Edward Martinez of CA; Denise Cervantes of San Jose, CA; Michael Wacaser of St. Joseph, MO and Laura Rafuse of Parkville, MO; 10 wonderful grandchildren; two beautiful great-granddaughters; four siblings: Robert Martinez of Milpitas, CA; Patricia Neighbors of Walsenburg, CO; Donald Martinez of CA; Steve Martinez of Walsenburg, CO. He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Richard Martinez and a sister, Bertha Vigil.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, MO. A Memorial Service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. with military honors. Memories of Ed and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.
