Joey’s works will always be among us. The Butler family are faithful beleivers through the works of God who guided Joey. Gudiance will remain with the family forever. Joey’s smile will remain with them through Jesus Christ. My prayers are wih you all; God Bless!
I will NEVER forget Joey. His infectious smirk, as he stood there with his hands on his hips . Joey was a great role model for others as he displayed his love of God and his family. I just hope that heaven has a “curb store” (QuikTrip) with lots of sweet tea.
Dawn,
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and all of the family at this difficult time. Hold tight to your memories – he will live on in your hearts forever.
Dawn, Shocked and so sorry to see Joey’s obituary in the Henderson newspaper. I was a Sunday school teacher for teens when Joey was youth minister at Trinity Baptist Church in Henderson TX. The youth loved him when he was here and enjoyed the activities he organized for them. We worked together on many activities. I have good memories of him also you when you accompanied him to Trinity. Sincere sympathy for your loss.

Dawn, Ty, Zac, and Josy ,
Hello, my name is Chris Plants. I know this sounds crazy but I just found out about Joey’s moving to heaven and really hit me like a rock to the gut. I was a member of Joey’s very first youth group, First Baptist Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Joey was still a student at ETBU and would drive into Cotton Valley on the weekends to be our youth pastor. I have spoken to Dawn on the phone before but not much.
Joey was a absolute blessing to me as a youth. He came to my house one time and we went fishing together at a creek by my house. He just spent time with me and I really needed that time with him at that point in my life. He took me and my buddies camping, to six flags, out to eat, and many youth activities. He was the first man in my life, that didn’t have grey hair, to talk about GOD and JESUS with such a absolute awesome and very confident relationship. I expect he was learning his craft for teaching youth and preaching with us but he was the absolute best I had ever heard. I truly loved him for his relationship with me, my family, friends, and especially GOD.
May 18, 1996, Joey married me and my wife, Wendi in Athens, Louisiana. I hadn’t seen him in years, of course, and he was absolutely the same guy that I had loved to spend any time with years earlier. He was so gracious to drive from Missouri to marry us. Of course, I had a lot going on while he was here and didn’t have time to visit with him like I wish I had.
My daughter had a try out this past Sunday for the ETBU softball team. While I was watching from the side line, and looking at the big ETBU sign in the outfield, I felt like I had to reach back out to Joey and see where he was in life and tell him where I was. I soon found his obituary on line. It really messed with my mind finding out I was 3 or 4 years to late in trying to speak with him again. It mad me sick to think I couldn’t reach out and speak with Joey on the phone.
Anyway, and I know yall know this, but yalls husband/father was an unbelievable man of GOD. I have thanked GOD many times for putting Joey in my life. I truly think he was sent to Cotton Valley, Louisiana just for me by GOD and Joey accepted that challenge and went there for GOD and me. I could no way express what he really meant to me in my life with words.
MAY GOD BLESS YALL WITH HIS RIGHTEOUS RIGHT HAND. I look forward to seeing Joey in heaven when I have my coming home party as well. I miss him so much it truly hurts. If I can ever be of any aid to any of yall please let me know.
