Joan Barbara Niemeyer, 89, a resident of Lake Tapawingo, MO passed away peacefully on September 9, 2019 at Truman Lakewood Care Center in Kansas City, MO. She was born July 7, 1930 in Kansas City, MO to Andrew and Frances (Thomkins) Leone.
Joan was a graduate of St. Therese Academy, and attended Avila University in Kansas City, MO. She was a parishioner of St. John Lalande Catholic Church in Blue Springs, and spent several years cooking and cleaning at the Directory for the Church. Joan was united in marriage to Joseph J. Niemeyer on November 21, 1953. She was a member of the Women’s Club at Lake Tapawingo and also enjoyed cooking, baking, painting, crocheting, and working crossword puzzles. Above all else Joan cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Survived by her 3 children, Michael Niemeyer of Kansas City, KS, Kimberly Fletcher and her husband Rick of Independence, MO, Christopher Niemeyer of Blue Springs, MO; 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Ian, Parker, Pierce, Valerie; 2 great-grandchildren, Ayden, Ronan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Niemeyer; daughter, Valerie Niemeyer; parents, Andrew and Frances Leone and brother Michael Leone .
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at St. John Lalande Catholic Church, 805 N.W. RD Mize Rd, Blue Springs, MO. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to mass starting at 10:00 a.m. at the church. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. I won’t be able to attend the service. My prayers and thoughts are with you. I always enjoyed being around my Aunt Joan and Uncle Joe. My mom and dad always played cards with them When I was growing My mom and dad and me would go over to their house allot. Your dad made the best BARB Q RIBS and Aunt Joan would make a great meal for all of us. Always remember you mom and dad loved each one of their children very much. Your mom and dad are in heaven with GOD and the Angels now and they will always . be loving you from heaven. I always think about my cousin Valerie.
