Jerry Donald Armstrong Sr., 76, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017. He was born September 29, 1941 in Kansas City, MO to Albert D. and Gertrude (Orlann) Armstrong.
Jerry was united in marriage to Bonnie Horton in Independence, MO. He worked as a foreman for Sheet Metal Local #2 for 35 years in Kansas City, MO. Jerry was Presbyterian by faith and was a member of the American Legion Post 499 and Sheet Metal Union. He enjoyed playing poker, bowling, fishing, and golfing. Jerry was instrumental in developing one of the best youth baseball leagues in the metro, he also coached American Legion Baseball in Blue Springs from 1975 to 2005.
Survivors include daughters, Corinne and husband Curtis Troxel of Blue Springs, MO, Edwina Long and Ronald Phillips of Independence, MO; son, Jerry D. Armstrong Jr., of Blue Springs, MO; sister, Sonia Hughes of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Bo, Alex, James, Erika, Tyler, Tim, Ronnie, Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Brody, Kristina, Zane and Serenity. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Armstrong; parents, Albert and Gertrude Armstrong.
Memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2017 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO. Jerry you were such a loving and supportive husband to Sybil, and father to Travis. Your friends knew you as a caring, sweet, humorous man. Your advocacy for people fighting mental illness gave so many comfort. I have many memories with you and Sybil. I will miss you dearly, friend. Heaven is receiving an Angel.
