Helen J. Bentley, 98, a longtime resident of Independence, MO. passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, MO. She had been a resident at The Fountains in Independence, MO. Helen was born September 3, 1924 to Joseph and Mary Weixeldorfer in Kansas City, MO.
Helen had just celebrated her 98th birthday and was honored by the Rosie the Riveter Association for her work at Pratt Whitney during WW II. Helen was a 1943 graduate of Blue Springs, High School. She married Woodrow W. Bentley and lived in the same house in Independence, MO for over 70 years. Helen had many interests including her work as historian for the Pipefitter’s Union, her love of gardening, traveling, watching sports as well as going to the casino. She enjoyed her 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Bentley and wife Darlene, of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter; Lydia Linebarger and husband Steve of Arlington, TN and daughter Sharon Sinclair, of Floyds Knobs, IN; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband and 5 brothers.
Her family will receive family and friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2022 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St. Blue Springs, MO. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel. Graveside service will immediately follow at the Blue Springs Cemetery. It was truly a blessing to know Helen. The joy she had each year decorating Christmas cookies with the family will be a memory I will always cherish!
