Harvey Alfred Craig, 77, of Independence, Missouri entered into Heaven’s glory from the comfort of his home on December 10, 2014. He was reunited in eternal life with his father, Alfred Alonzo Craig and mother, Marie (Elliott) Craig.
Harvey was born March 5, 1937. He was a lifelong resident of Independence, where he graduated from Chrisman High School in 1955, married his lifetime love, raised his children, and operated Craig Construction Company for over 40 years. Harvey also served in the US Army Reserves for 6 years, and attended college at the University of Montana, Central Missouri State University, and UMKC. He was a member of the American Water Ski Association and the Missouri Water Ski Federation.
Harvey placed his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, and his life reflected that faith. He loved unconditionally, worked with excellence, provided generously, and served God and others faithfully. He was full of kindness, gentleness, and selflessness. His presence was one of steadfastness and quiet strength – a comfort to all who knew him. To know Harvey was to know a warm smile, a ready hand of help, a gracious gentleman, a father-figure to many, a skilled worker, and fine example of family man and friend.
Harvey’s second and beloved home was the family cabin at Lake of the Ozarks, which he helped his father build in 1950. After his father’s death, Harvey continued to maintain and build upon the home – a source of respite, comfort and joy for himself, family and friends. He worked hard to take care of the property – and to make enjoyment for everyone. He shared his love for waterskiing and boating with his children and many of their friends, patiently driving, teaching and grinning all the while. Whether through work or play, Harvey was smiling and content, until he sat down to bask in the beauty of a sunset and give praise for the glory of God’s creation and the blessing of a lake home.
Harvey left this earth at peace, knowing God’s hand was sovereign over his life and death. He wanted his “homegoing” to be a time of rejoicing. Those left to anticipate joining him someday include:
His wife of 53 years, Donna Dale (Surface) Craig, son Jeff and daughter-in-law Renie, grandsons Nathan and Matthew; Matthew’s wife, Layla Rosario Craig and son, Oliver; daughter Julie; daughter Andrea Craig Winders and son-in-law, Matthew Winders, Sr,, and their children, Niko Winders, Elena Espinosa, and Sheila (Abbott) Harrison; Sheila’s husband Kenny and son Dominic; brother David Craig and his wife Connie, and nieces Wendy and Becky; sister-in-law Janna Russell; nephew Rick Turnbow and daughter Lacy; niece Lauri (Turnbow) Burkhart, husband Ted and children Kristine and Kevin; nephew Sean Nyquist; nephew Troy Russell, wife Pamela and children Zac, Cody, and Brianna; niece Kristy (Russell) Combs and sons Hayden and Cooper.
