Gregorio Cortes, 91, a resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at his home. He was born January 27, 1930, to Juan and Agripina Cortes in Aguadilla, PR.
Greg served his country proudly in the United States Army, 6th Field Infantry Regiment as a guard at Spandau Prison in Berlin. In July 1953, Greg was assigned to US Army Reserves where he served for additional eight years and received honorable discharge.
He worked as production manager at Curtis Mathes Corporation in the 1960’ and 70’s and at Tii Corporation as senior vice president of engineering until his retirement in the mid 90’s. He enjoyed watching WWII movies and listening to music, especially the Oak Ridge Boys.
Greg was kindhearted and a true gentleman. His life was defined by selflessness, humility, truthfulness and commitment. He was a loyal and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Greg married Elsa Maria Alvarez, December 17, 1955 in New York City, NY. They had four children, Ruth, Kansas City, MO; Greg, Chelsea, VT; Raquel, San Juan, PR and James Phoenix, AZ.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Agripina, six sisters and four brothers, his first wife Elsa and his son James.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Maria Miranda of Bergenfield, NJ; daughters: Ruth D. Jennings and her husband Paul; Raquel G. Cortes and her husband Jesus; his son Greg Cortes; his only grandson, Doug and three great grandchildren: John ll, Cristi and Greg William.
Greg will be cremated per his wishes. His family will gather to celebrate his life at a later time. Memories of Greg and words of comfort for his family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.
