Eugene Eliot Timmons
May 9, 1936 ~ November 29, 2022
Gene grew up in Glendale, California where he played sports, took piano lessons, traveled to national parks on camping adventures with his family. Much of his life and activities centered around the family participation in church. He cherished the summers they spent at the family cabin in Idylwild.
He graduated from Pomona College, then choosing to pursue education at Fuller Seminary and receiving his Master of Divinity from San Anselmo Seminary upon becoming an ordained Presbyterian minister. He served his first church in Los Altos, California. He added to his training in Pastoral counseling at the Menniger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas where he served on the staff for 2 years after completing his training.
Coming to Kansas City he joined the staff of Heartland Presbytery. While serving on the staff he created Clergy Career Support Services. He retired in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Penelope Timmons; by his children: Julie Meenahan (Mike); Jim Timmons; and his grandchildren Skylar Timmons; Bryce Meenahan; Luke Meenahan as well as his stepchildren: Stephen, Meredith, Jeffrey and his step grandchildren Henry and Ezra.
Gene enjoyed ALL kinds of projects from building furniture, remodeling houses, restoring cars, to owning a farm where he had his own lumber business.
Gene was happy to help anyone and everyone by sharing his manual labor skill, his counseling skills and with pastoral care.
He was competitive in practically everything he did from club tennis, league golf to card games of all kinds, to senior softball.
As one of his close friends said in summarizing him “Here is Gene Timmons a swell guy, everyone said so.”
And so he was!

So sorry to hear of his passing. Keeping family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.
Love all of you! So Sorry. We are holding you in our hearts and prayers.
I’m so sad to learn of my cousin Gene’s passing. He was my first hero and I worshiped the ground he walked on when I was I young boy. I regret that we didn’t maintain closer ties as the years passed by.
Penelope, you were a steadfast support during Eugene’s years of declining health. May you experience peace as you think back on all the years you two shared together
May Gene’s Spirit fly swiftly to the highest light of Heaven then return as love and sweet memories to heal and strengthen the hearts and lives of those who feel the pain of losing all the good that he has given to this world.

Gene was a guiding mentor for me in the 1980’s. He believed in me and encouraged me in my first steps toward ministry. I will always appreciate his advice and care.
Gene and I were golf partners for several years in the Painted Hills Senior league in KCK. I was a football coach, and he was a minister. We played together for several years and found that we had much in common. Many hours we spent solving the world’s problems. Gene was the kindness person I have ever known. Who was a true follower of Christ. We both loved sports and followed the local teams. Gene came to see some of games at St. James Academy and Piper High School. As fans we went to both Royals games and Chiefs games. This past year I was not able to play with Gene because of his illness. Several members of the league shared with me that they considered him the kindest man they had ever known.
