Gary W. Nichols 81, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away October 25, 2018. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday October 30th at Meyers Northland Funeral Chapel in Parkville. Visitation will precede the service from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial with military honors will be in East Slope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to American Legion Post #61.
Gary was a very proud retired United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. During this time he was recognized with the Good Conduct Award with the Bronze Star, and National Defense Service Medal. He later worked as a mechanic for the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department, retiring after 20 years of service. Gary truly enjoyed being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. Gary was an active member and former commander of American Legion Post # 61, and member of the American Legion Riders. He loved animals, working on old cars and motorcycles.
Preceding Gary in death was his first wife, Virginia Nichols, parents, Harvey and Molly (Underwood) Nichols, sisters, Clarinda Lambert, and JoAnne Randal. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Nichols, children, Katherine Dodd, Richard Nichols, John Nichols, James Nichols, Karl Nichols, Ronald Nichols, Donald Nichols, Debora Squire, Randall George, Rebecca Black, Jeffrey Lewis, brother, Harvey Nichols, sisters, Susan Marks, Jackie Nichols, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
