Funeral services in Kansas City have been set for Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville. Visitation 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
A second visitation and service will be held Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., October 17, 2023 with the Funeral Service and Masonic Services commencing at 11:00 a.m. https://www.andersonfhs.com/
Gary William Ficken, 81, of Parkville, MO passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at NorthCare Hospice House with his wife by his side. Gary was born May 16, 1942 to Gerhard William and Genevieve (Spencer) Ficken in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Gary worked at several businesses: selling cookies for Twin City Biscuit of Minnesota; salesman at Miracle Maid Cookware; he worked in the printing trade, and he owned his own siding company, Cheyenne Siding.
He was an active member of numerous lodges and clubs: the Masonic Compass Lodge # 120; Jamestown Lodge #6; El Zagal Shrine of Fargo, North Dakota; Ararat Shrine Kansas City, MO; Scottish Rite and the York Rite. Gary also volunteered as a Fireman in Rhodes Iowa and Jamestown, N.D.
Gary enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting with his buddies: Darrell Metzger, Dan Doherty and Alex Picone; golfing with J.D. Land; playing cards, and playing Pac-man with Darrell. Plus given a chance he would help anyone on their farm.
He loved his grandchildren; Gary never missed an opportunity to slip them a ten-, twenty- or hundred-dollar bill.
Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara Ficken; three sons: Billy Ficken; Jon Ficken (Carole); David Ficken; five grandchildren: Alaina, Jack, Kyle, Natalie, Cole; a sister Marilyn Purdy of Melbourn, Iowa. He was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers; and an infant sister.
