Frank Hunt Brown, 68, of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully on October 22, 2023. He was born February 9, 1955 in Wharton, TX to Ruben and Margaret (Matzke) Brown. Frank was born without the gift of sight. He went on to graduate from the Texas School for the Blind and had a long and rewarding career in music.
Music was the heartbeat of Frank’s soul. His musical talents included playing the fiddle and keyboard. He had a dynamic voice and singing was also a gift of Franks. His professional career began in the 1970’s and early 1980’s when he was a member of the house band at Gilley’s in Pasadena, TX. He would go on to spend time with several well known bands, including the Live Oak Band, Larose & River Rock and most notably, the Dixie Cadillacs, which was recently inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame. Later in his career he was known for his time at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jennifer L. (Vaughn) Brown and second wife, Joyce Ann (Pruett) Brown. Family was very important to Frank. He leaves behind his children: Brian Vaughn Brown (wife Kimberly) of Oak Grove, MO, Melissa Lueckenhoff of Blue Springs, MO and Kevin C. Lay of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren: Callie, Weston, Olivia, Austin,Isaiah, Adalyn and Theo; and a beloved great granddaughter, Ophelia; siblings: Mark Brown of San Antonio, TX, Kathy Sikkema (Richard) of Leander, TX and Dan Brown (Liz) of Round Rock, TX.
He loved a good steak on the grill and time with family. Will be missed. Prayers to his family.
Frank was my copilot, on the road for years, rode shotgun, shared conversations, books on tape, meals, even a few in Europe…. A favorite memory was in Chicago when Garth Brooks drummer sat in. Played Copperhead Road he obviously didn’t know it, Frank hollered who the hell is playing drums…. Or the Early morning we went Ginny hunting with Daryle Singletary…. Or the first time Frank played craps in Vegas hits several points in a row…..
Sad. I just got to meet him Oct 7th, and played some music with him. He is/was good friends with some of my good friends too.
Prayers to family and friends .I meet Frank down after a Bourbon Cowboy show that ended at Lake of the Ozarks Andy Coins place .I had a place (and still do )up a few coves and Sir Fred said they would be there after a show so I headed over there on Sunday morning came up to basement let myself in and said Who wants to ski ? everyone mumbled and grumbled like that had to much fun the night before but Frank stood up said I do ! I knew he couldn’t see and I was a little confused then Batman said no its alright he can ski ! so I helped him on boat and by golly he was skiing better than most by the time we were cruzin the whole crew was on the dock screaming and yelling There is a vhs tape of this Im hoping Troy Coin still has that tape? but I just wanted to share this with friends and family R.I.P.
