Elizabeth J Lyon, (Liz), age 70, passed away on Monday, September 5th at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, Missouri. Liz was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 3, 1952. Her parents Frank and Margaret Lyon welcomed her as their fifth child of nine children.
Shortly afterward, the family moved to Kansas City, MO. Liz attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated from Paseo High School in 1970. During high school Liz was an active participant with the “Up With People” a musical group of teenagers from throughout the Kansas City area. She had many lifelong friends from that activity.
One of her first jobs was at Cricket West on the Plaza, while she attended school to become a CNA. As a CAN she began working with the elderly but she found her true passion was working with children. She returned to Kansas City after a short stint in Seattle and completed her nursing degree at Penn Valley Community College.
Liz worked as a pediatric nurse at Baptist Medical Center, here in Kansas City until she retired in 2003. In addition to her role as a registered nurse, for many of her patients she became an ongoing support system.
She LOVED her family–as a daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt. She was very active and could always be counted on to help out with her many nieces and nephews and the great-nieces and nephews. With her wealth of medical knowledge, she was often our first resource when someone did not feel well.
In her spare time, when she was not working or spoiling kids and their friends, you would find her enjoying her second passion. Baking, mostly cookies (she made the best cookies) in the world and applesauce raisin cake. She became known as ejcookies49. Although baking was her passion, she will also be remembered for her homemade chicken and noodles.
Liz was an avid sports fan— the Royals, Chiefs, any and all college football and basketball. Every Saturday and Sunday you would find her glued to the television rooting, sometimes very loudly, for her favorite teams.
Liz leaves behind four sisters, Mary Culbertson, Jenny Lyon, Aggie Robinson, and Rose Lyon. She also has two brothers Joseph Lyon and Gerald Lyon.
Also missing her are her nieces and nephews, Jim Lyon, Susan Lyon, Bob Lyon, Adam Lyon, Christa Kronquist, Heather Reardon, Joseph Robinson, Sarah Schmidt, Jessica Lyon, Amy Wilkinson, and Andrew Cook and 15 great-nieces and nephews They loved her dearly.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret Lyon, one sister,Theresa Marie Lyon, and two brothers, Frank C Lyon and John Lyon. A brother-in- law, Richard Culbertson, and a sister-in-law, Tricia Lyon also participated in her welcome home party in heaven.

Aggie and Rose, what a beautiful tribute to your selfless and giving sister. She left this world too soon but one day we will see and rejoice with her and life will be right again.

Thank you for sharing Liz story of life in such a loving, caring and thoughtful way. Much appreciated ! Lots if love, prayers and unconditional love coming from us here on the other side of the Ocean. Liz was a true hero in the everyday lives of people.
I have known Liz since we were members of Up With People. Almost every weekend was spent at one of our houses, having such great times with our friend Jeff Fisler. Liz was so good hearted. She adored her family and was a loyal friend. I so appreciate Liz’s sisters , Jenny and Aggie, for helping me reconnect with Liz and stay informed of her health. We will miss her.
