Dr. Michael William Farrar passed on August 23, 2023. Michael was born on March 3, 1955 to William L. and Velma L. Farrar in Lawrence, Kansas. He is survived by both parents.
Michael excelled at everything he did. He achieved his Eagle Scout designation before many his age, and was recognized as a Shaman of the Mic-O-Say Tribe, a meaningful tradition to scouting and the Kansas City community.
Michael graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1973. Despite his inherited and lifelong love for the KU Jayhawks, he attended the UMKC School of Medicine as its first accepted Northlander.
Michael was a founding member of Northland Cardiology (now Meritas Cardiology) with North Kansas City Hospital (NKCH), where he worked for over 30 years. He gave his heart and soul to the people of the Northland, serving the hospital at every turn, including as President of Medical Staff. Unquestionably though, his love for medicine paled in comparison to his love of being “Gramps” to his beautiful granddaughter, Norah.
Michael is also survived by his wife Angela; his daughter Kate Donaldson and her husband Clint, and their daughter, Norah; his sister Vicki Thompson and her husband Joe; his sister Karen English and her husband Brad; and his nephews Andrew Bischoff, Joel Bischoff, Alex Beal, and Jack Beal.
Mike was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Scott, and daughter, Kelly Christine.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers please consider donating to any of the following organizations:
- North Kansas City Hospital (NKCH)
- The Kansas City Heart Association
- Michael Farrar Memorial Scholarship at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine.
Services will be held on August 30, 2023 at Avondale United Methodist Church, 3101 NE Winn Rd, Kansas City, MO 64117. The family will begin receiving visitors at 1pm. The service will commence at 2pm. Memories of Michael and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com

Later I became a patient of Dr. Farrar when he and Dr. Chapman treated me for A-FIB and encourage an ablation which worked so far. While seeing him every 6 months we had some personal conversations as to trips to Alaska and past friends including Howard Brazelton our principal at Eastgate who is also one of his patients. I feel that I have lost a good friend and an excellent cardiologist. My deep condolences to his parents and family.

I met Dr. Michael Farrar in 1994 and I was very impressed by him. I sincerely wish to express my condolences to his parents, his siblings, his wife (I’m happy he found a nice lady with whom to marry), and and especially to his daughter, Kate and his Granddaughter. Mike was a man, a husband, a doctor, a Dad, a Grandpa, a son and a brother to be proud of. During many conversation with him, Mike taught me how to properly pronounce Bethesda without twisting my tongue. God Bless all of you, his family and his friends.

Dr. Farrar saved my life July 31st, 2022! He came into my room a couple days later when I got out of icu and gave me his personal cell number and told me to call him direct if any issues. This is a huge lost to the community, NKC hospital, his family, and many patients! R.i.p. Dr. Farrar and I can never thank you enough for saving my life so I can spend it with my wife, kids, grandkids, and family!
To all of Dr Farrar’s family and friends, I offer my condolences. I worked with Dr Farrar many years ago at one of his outreach clinics. He also did many of my cardiac tests and treated many friends and family members. He was a brilliant cardiologist, and a man of great integrity. He will be missed dearly.

We join with many others in expressing love, sympathy, and prayers to Dr. Farrar’s family and staff. Chuck has been a patient of Dr. Farrar’s since the 1980’s and just recently was in his office. The loss of a very special family man, doctor, and friend will be missed by many. May each one’s special memories of how he touched their lives be forever a comfort as an earthly goodbye is experienced at this time.

Not only was I a patient of Dr. Farrar, but I considered him to be a trusted friend. I think I am living today because of his expertise, treatment, and care. In fact, I truly believe he saved my life on two different occasions. I know he has many patients throughout this city and especially north of the river. We have lost a truly dedicated human being who will not easily be replaced. What a very sad loss.
I share with you in mourning his death.
With sympathy:

I’ve only known Dr Farrar through our visits during my cardio appointments. First met him around 2001. He has always been a great supporter of his patients. He was such a wonderful doctor for me. This one hit me hard. Our last meeting, we talked of retirement. Told him of my retirement, and he expressed the desire to retire in about 5 years. Such a shock. I cherished every moment spent with him. He and everyone else in his office were very gracious to me. He is missed by many.
