Donald Lee Flathers Sr, 92, of Cameron, MO formerly of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Cameron Regional Hospital in Cameron, MO. He was born on June 29, 1926 in Kansas City, MO to James and Ada (Furrell) Flathers.
Donald served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Laura Barr on September 10, 1947 in Kansas City, MO from this union 9 children were born. Donald spent the majority of his working career at Butler Manufacturing as a general laborer. He was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence, MO. Donald enjoyed playing the piano, watching football, baseball and boxing. Donald truly cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Survived by his daughters, Cynthia Grosse (Phil), Donna Martin (Mike), Rhonda Green (John), Kimberly Flathers, Joan Jones (Bruce); sons, Donnie Flathers Jr., John Flathers (Kim), Chris Flathers (Amanda); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Laura Flathers; daughter, Brenda Flathers; granddaughter, Jamie Martin; parents, James and Ada Flathers; 12 siblings.
Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd, Independence, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 26 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Leete presiding. A committal service with full military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Grandpa was a wonderful funny guy who could make anyone laugh and smile. He knew how to cheer you up when you were down. I remeber when i was younger would spend the night we would sit together watch tv wrestling or boxing sometimes mash came on lol. He always offered what he had if you needed it he would help. I couldnt ask for a better grandpa than him i miss and love you grandpa.

Dad, you will be be missed in many ways. I’m so grateful my Grandkids were able to see their Great Grandpa. Especially Brayden, I know he will never forget that famous hand shake or smile! You did that till the very end and now there is big void in all of our lives. We love you Dad 😔
