Derrek Alan Buttron, 45, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Friday, February 20, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born November 3, 1969, in Kansas City, KS to Jerry and Sonja (Gigstad) Buttron. Derrek graduated from Park Hill High School in 1988 and earned his BA in Computer Information Systems from Southwest Missouri State University.
Derrek’s greatest love was his family. He was a member of the Platte Woods United Methodist Church and was proud to be an Eagle Scout from Troop 314 and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Derrek held a private pilots license and enjoyed flying. Computers were his passion, both at work and at home.
He married Julie Ivanoff on September 28, 1996, at the Platte Woods United Methodist Church. They have two beautiful children, Ashley Nicole and Braeden Thomas Buttron. Julie and the children reside in their home in Kansas City. Additional survivors include his parents and his brother, Brad Buttron and his wife, Nacy.
A funeral service celebrating Derrek’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Platte Woods United Methodist Church. A graveside service and burial will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family, to be used for a future scholarship fund for Ashley and Braeden, and may be left in care of the Meyers Northland Chapel 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152.
