Dennis Wayne Abbott, 73, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO. He was born May 4, 1949 to Carl and Beverly (Porterfield) Abbott in Kansas City, MO.
Dennis attended Van Horn High School in Independence, MO where he played both football and baseball and was an Eagle Scout. Dennis was a Vietnam veteran in the United States Navy. He worked in the portable restroom industry for 30 plus years and was most proud to be able to start a business with his son Jeff (ORI -Outdoor Restroom Inc.) in Blue Springs, MO. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs where he was a Red Coater and the Kansas City Royals. Dennis loved the Lake of the Ozarks, especially Frank and Louie’s/Deer Valley, where he lived for the past 15 years. Dennis also loved watching Gunsmoke and any other old western movies and for years got in involved in Cowboy reenactment’s throughout Missouri. But above all of that, he cherished watching his grandchildren grow up and do what they loved, whether it was dancing, baseball, basketball or riding horses.
He is survived by his son, Jeff Abbott and wife Amanda of Grain Valley, MO; daughter, Amanda (Amy) Abbott; granddaughters, Kaydence and Avery Abbott and Zoey Bibler; grandsons Cameron Abbott and Zachary Bibler; siblings, Patricia VanMaeleand husband Bobby of Blue Springs, Debbie Busby and husband Jack of Independence. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marsha Dunning.

I was lucky enough to get to know Big D at Deer Valley, he was a great storyteller. Loved Franky and Louie’s and his friends here. He fought hard in the last years, he will be missed 😢
