She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Kenney, baby brother Jimmy Vinson, sister/sister-in-law Lila Kenney, brother-in-law Larry Kenney, mother and father in-law Walter and Charlotte Kenney, sister-in-laws Joyce Vinson, Patricia Train and brother-in-law Jerry Kenney.
Dee is fondly remembered as the matriarch of the Kenney Klan and extended family. She is survived by her children Michael (Jenny), Patrick, Anne (Rick), Sara, brother John Vinson, sister-in-law Barbara Seiwald (Donald), the other Kenney Kids: Tom (Carolyn), Bill (Rosalie), Bob (Annette), Therese (David) and Joe (Susie). She is Dee Dee to 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and loved by her large extended family – nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She moved to Kansas City in her senior year and graduated from Northeast High School. Dee and Charles were married November 11, 1950, at St. Mary’s in Independence, MO. Sugar Creek was the village where they raised their children, instilled their faith in God at St. Cyril’s Church and were involved in community traditions. Dee retired from Armco Steel after many years of service. Her door was always open, she never met a stranger, remembered everyone and was always the last to leave.
In lieu of flowers, Dee is using her dearly loved sister-in-law Joyce’s advice: Take a loved one out to dinner, turn off your cell phones, and have a nice chat. Donations are suggested to Birthright and Sugar Creek Citizen Civic Relief Commission and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Meyers Northland Chapel, 401 Main St, Parkville, MO 64152, where a Prayer service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 MO-9, Kansas City, MO 64152. Sarah to you and the entire family
Our prayers are with you. Spend time remebering the good times, she will be missed.
There’s a big void when we lose our Moms, keep her close to your heart.
Always loved her smile and upbeat attitude!
I feel grateful.to have met Dee at the first reunion I attended with Andy and the boys. I remember chatting with her and the feeling that I was talking to someone that I’ve known my whole life, even having just met. She’ll be greatly missed, but I know her presence will always be around within the huge wonderful family. Our love, thoughts and prayers to the family.
Sara, Joe, Susie, the entire Kenney Clan, my deepest sympathies. I am so sorry for your loss, I just recently heard of Dee’s passing. She was such an amazing person. I loved her very much, She was always so kind to me as a kid at the KofC and later as an adult. She was always kind to me after the loss of my parents and brother. I will forever be thankful for her kindness. Prayers, Kathleen Smith-Crosby
