Debra Ann Scoggins, 63, of Shawnee, KS passed away peacefully on August 20, 2022, at the Kansas City Hospice House with her family at her bedside. She was born May 26, 1959 in Fulton, MO to Erastus and Mamie (Davis) Newsom.
Debbie graduated from North Callaway High School and earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO. She spent the majority of her working career with Johnson Controls at their Tiffany Springs location. Debbie had a deep love for both her Lord and her family. In her spare time she cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and great cook. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her dogs.
Survivors include her children: Douglas A. Scoggins (Carrie) of Kansas City, MO, Jamie L. Reynolds (David) of Platte City, MO and Terry W. Scoggins, Jr. (Kellie) of Camden Point, MO; Siblings: Liz Wilmsmeyer (David) of Warrenton, MO, Roger Newsom (Joann) of Parkville, MO, Polly Shipley (Bill) of St. Clair, MO, Walter Newsom (Joyce) of Warrenton, MO and Rick Newsom, Sr. (Christy) of Platte City, MO; her beloved grandchildren: Rian, Jaiden, Jesse, Delana, Makenna, Derek, Brynlee, Terry III, Elijah and Karson; She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bob and James Newsom.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at The Calling Community Church in Platte City, MO, where a Funeral Service celebrating Debbie’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Brady Testorff will officiate. Graveside Services and Burial will take place Friday in Fulton, MO.

To Debbie’s family-So sorry for your loss, I extend many condolences to you all. I will remember all of the inspirational books that Debbie shared with me. Our conversations about the books were quite meaningful. Debbie always spoke of her love of family members through our 20+ years of working together. I will miss Debbie. We went a long ways back at our previous job at JCI. She always had a smile on her face no matter what she was experiencing in life. She is missed. I pray for the strength of her family at her transition to Heaven.
