Darryl Glenn Sheets, 61, was born September 5, 1961 in Independence, MO to Gloria LaVon and Ornan Junior Sheets. He grew up one of five children, and while the jury is out on the orneriest of the bunch, his kids have their money on Darryl. Sure, he graduated in 1979 from Fort Osage High School, worked at Hallmark Cards since he was 18 and raised five children, but how do we know he wasn’t an international spy? He once traveled to London, so one never knows…
Darryl lived and breathed Hallmark. He had several positions during his almost 43 year career, but the position he held the longest was affectionately called “cubicle farmer.” He loved the company and his co-workers dearly. His boss, Tony, was one of Darryl’s favorite people.
Darryl was a loving dad to five kids. Four of the five of the little devils came as a package deal in marriage. It’s a great man who dives into a swarm of kids headfirst and loves them as they were his own. His youngest child, Celeste, was the light of Darryl’s life. What he lacked in ability to express verbally, he made up for in effort. None of his kids went without knowing we were loved, regardless.
Golf, landscaping his yards and building things with his hands made Darryl happiest, unless you invited him to Disneyland or a Chiefs game. He also loved animals. His best pet friend at the end of his life was a sweet tuxedo cat named Sasha. She misses him daily.
Darryl Sheets went home on January 23, 2023 to be with those who left before him. Those greeting Darryl are his father Ornan Sheets, his sister-in-law Shanna Sheets, and his stepson, Thomas Wilkinson. He leaves behind a family who loves him dearly Survived by his daughter, Celestine Lovella of Loveland, CO; mother, Gloria Sheets of Blue Springs, MO; step-children, Jacque Wilkinson of Blue Springs, MO, Andrew Wilkinson (Lizzie) of Independence, MO, Matthew Wilkinson (Audrea) of Buckner, MO; siblings, James Sheets of Blue Springs, MO, Janet Sheets of Oak Grove, MO, Tina Sheets of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Jude Smith, Admiral Fenwick, Brody Wilkinson, Kynzie Wheeler, William Thomas Wilkinson, Serenity Garmon, Kayden Garmon, Lucas Wilkinson, Alexia Wilkinson, Adrian Wilkinson. Darryl is preceded in death by his father, Ornan Sheets; brother, David Sheets; stepson, Thomas Wilkinson; sister-in-law, Shanna Sheets.

I had the pleasure of working with Darryl during my last 16 year at Hallmark. Darryl was one of the nicest people you could ever want to meet. He was soft spoken and always willing to help.
He will be missed!
Darryl was a dear sweet soul and will be missed. He took great pleasure in decorating and working in his yard. In high school I had him in about 3 classes here and there. He was always kind and quiet but also would say funny things and I’d laugh.
I grew up with Darryl on Vista Drive in Farviw in Independence only5 houses away. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body and yes he was a little quiet too. You couldn’t find a better person than him too! He will be dearly missed by all, that I am certain of.
I worked with Darryl indirectly and I was sad to hear about this news. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family.
My heart breaks to hear of the passing of Darryl. He was a great guy. I got to spend a lot of time with him when I delivered to Hallmark. You get to be pretty good friends with people when you deal with them every day for years and years. He will definitely be missed. My condolences to the family. May Darryl be forever in your hearts.
I lived on Vista Dr. and grew up with Darryl and his brothers and sisters till they moved. I also am a 43+ year Hallmark employee. I was surprised and sad to hear he had passed away. It was always nice stopping and having conversations with him about the old neighborhood and what he was currently doing. I know he loved his family, was a hard worker and was well thought of at Hallmark. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Darryl had a quit sense of humor, he talked soft but he always got the point across. I didn’t work with Darryl long but left a lasting impression on me. Darryl is now surrounded by all his loved one’s that came before, his suffering is no more, he’s resting with the Lord.
Darryl was an honor to work with on many projects that we shared together. He always enjoyed the most innovative work. He will be missed. Best wishes to his family for strength during this delicate time. The world was a better place with Darryl, his smile, and his wonderful demeanor will be missed.
